THE WORLD GREATEST BLACKS

This thread is a tribute to

J.A.ROGERS.

Everybody can join in, to keep focus and free ourselves from daily White Supremacy brainwash. Let this be a display of Pan-Africanism on ES, today. Discussion of merits is welcomed.

1883-1966

Critical Assessments of Joel Augustus Rogers
Although Joel Augustus Rogers was largely self-trained, some of the most distinguished scholars of the twentieth century have acknowledged our debt to him. Dr. William E. B. DuBois (1868-1963), perhaps the greatest scholar in American history, wrote that, "No man living has revealed so many important facts about the Negro race as has Rogers." The eminent anthropologist and sociologist J.G. St. Clair Drake wrote that:
"No discussion of comparative race relations would be complete without consideration of the work of the highly motivated, self-trained historian Joel A. Rogers. Endowed with unusual talent, Rogers rose to become one of the best-informed individuals in the world on Black history, writing and publishing his own books without any kind of organizational or foundation support."

CHEIKH ANTA DIOP

"In practice it is possible to determine directly the skin colour and hence the ethnic affiliations of the ancient Egyptians by microscopic analysis in the laboratory; I doubt if the sagacity of the researchers who have studied the question has overlooked the possibility." --Cheikh Anta Diop

Cheikh Anta Diop, a modern champion of African identity, was born in Diourbel, Senegal on December 29, 1923. At the age of twenty-three, he journeyed to Paris, France to continue advanced studies in physics. Within a very short time, however, he was drawn deeper and deeper into studies relating to the African origins of humanity and civilization.

Maya Angelou - Author, poet, playwright, born 1928
A great voice of black literature. Angelou's memoirs expose the difficulties of growing up as a black woman in St Louis. Her achievements are many and varied, and she was the first African-American woman admitted to the Directors Guild of America.

ALEXANDER DUMAS

I have visited this place twice. Unusual to have a museum in Europe dedicated to a Black man. One they also consider Black, because of a slave ancestor. Very nice, peaceful spot. The bus driver who works the route, a Black French man, did not know this museum, nor that Dumas was Black. Everything written in French though.

Toussaint, while there were many great freedom fighters in many parts of the world he made the greatest impact in the America's of that time list off accomplishments
1. The Louisiana Purchase may not have been made had it not been for Toussaint Louverture.
2. Louverture freed the slaves of Haiti in the only permanently successful slave revolt in history.
3. He developed the idea of dominion status for Haiti as part of France. Rejected by Napoleon, the idea subsequently was used by Great Britain 66 years later on July 1, 1862, when Canada became the first dominion.
4. He wrote the first constitution for Haiti. It was the second constitution for a republic in the Western Hemisphere.
5. He was the greatest Black general in history, except for Hannibal 2000 years earlier.
6. He was the most outstanding Black statesman in history.
7. He possessed outstanding ability as a civil administrator.
8. He set up the first legal code for Haiti.
9. He devised the first universal school system for Black people.
10. He dealt with the first five presidents of the United States or their representatives, either when they were in that office or when they were Secretary of State.
11. He was the first Black man to be the subject of poems by two of America’s leading poets.
12. He was the only Black general to defeat three of the world’s biggest armies: French, British and Spanish.
13. He declared emancipation for slaves 61 years before U.S. president Abraham Lincoln did so.
14. He devised a plan for how slaves could gain economic freedom, before those rights were granted in any other country.
15. By bringing the freedom of slaves to the world’s attention, Louverture’ example helped other worldwide liberation movements develop (women’s right to vote and other women’s issues, child labor laws, environmental movements and others).
16. He caused European governments for the first time to deal with the aspirations of Black colonial people. His example was followed by Simon Bolivar in South America, Russians with serfs, British in India, and Boers in South Africa (due to Gandhi’s leadership).
17. Set up the first new and simplified tax code.
18. He got rid of corrupt French tax collectors in Haiti. Substituted clear-cut tax rules.
19. He promulgated and administered new laws with justice (unique for colonials).
20. He improved the quality of slaves’ lives measurably. Gave them pride as members of society.
21. He was the “First one who brought guerrilla warfare to he notice of military historians. He used strict discipline and precision with athletic prowess.”

Menelik II defeated Italian imperialist ambitions at the battle of Adowa thus preserving the only free African state and one of two black run state in the world at that time, one of five states in the world not conquered or ruled by Europeans the others being the Kingdom of Thailand and the Empire of Japan.

Nanny was a leader of the Maroons at the beginning of the 18th century. She was known by both the Maroons and the British settlers as an outstanding military leader who became, in her lifetime and after, a symbol of unity and strength for her people during times of crisis.

She was particularly important to them in the fierce fight with the British, during the First Maroon War from 1720 to 1739. Although she has been immortalised in songs and legends, certain facts about Nanny (or "Granny Nanny", as she was affectionately known) have also been documented.

Both legends and documents refer to her as having exceptional leadership qualities. She was a small, wiry woman with piercing eyes. Her influence over the Maroons was so strong, that it seemed to be supernatural and was said to be connected to her powers of obeah. She was particularly skilled in organising the guerilla warfare carried out by the Eastern Maroons to keep away the British troops who attempted to penetrate the mountains to overpower them.

Her cleverness in planning guerilla warfare confused the British and their accounts of the fights reflect the surprise and fear which the Maroon traps caused among them.

Besides inspiring her people to ward off the troops, Nanny was also a type of chieftainess or wise woman of the village, who passed down legends and encouraged the continuation of customs, music and songs, that had come with the people from Africa, and which instilled in them confidence and pride.

Her spirit of freedom was so great that in 1739, when Quao signed the second Treaty (the first was signed bv Cudjoe for the Leeward Maroons a few months earlier) with the British, it is reported that Nanny was very angry and in disagreement with the principle of peace with the British, which she knew meant another form of subjugation.

There are many ledgends about Nanny among the Maroons. Some even claim that there were several women who were leaders of the Maroons during this period of history. But all the legends and documents refer to Nanny of the First Maroon War, as the most outstanding of them all, leading her people with courage and inspiring them to struggle to maintain that spirit of freedom, and life of independence, which was their rightful inheritance.

Jane Austen is the greatest Black in the world as she is the greatest writer in the world. Sge identifies as Black and she looks Black.
All her personages are brown or black of skin, and they discuss complexion and Black Beauty. She writes Black History in Emma (1816).
Jane Austen is a Black Activist

About laughing out loud: I see people in the street laughing by themselves...perhaps they think about this thread too?

But what I really need to know is where the hijacked JSTOR articles are kept. I'm looking for:

A quick question. What made you put Oprah on this thread? Her social reengineering is largely responsible for the plight of the black family in the Anglosphere today.

^ My point exactly, but considering the source; Definitely has skewed reality checks on what is important (clothes, hair, shoes, penis, Jane Austen, ect.) than normal men, and that's the negative we cannot afford.

 -

even this guy was forced into being "some what" activist because of the tremendous activism of his time.

Oprah is a professional coon. Her show is nothing but a slick media COINTELPRO targetting blacks at the instigation of her handlers. If the thread was entitled: foul negroes who deserve a millenium in hell,I would endorse Oprah wholeheartedly.
I'm a little disappointed ESers, who I assumed were more cerebral than most, can't see the obvious.
