Based on ancient Egyptian teeth analysis,
we suggest that many factors may account for the wear pattern variation and deposits of dental surfaces and calculus observed on modern and fossil samples. Evidence presented for food, cooking, and medicinal plants in Neanderthal may result from embalming.

Neanderthals, like Homo sapiens did later, buried their dead in a covering of animal hide with a layer of iron peroxide strewed over the remains.
