The issue of where humans emerged was once answered in religious terms--i.e. of Jewish folklore. The answer was the Garden of Eden--first populated by Adam and Eve. There are many people today who believe that Adam and Eve were the first humans. The idea that humans and apes share a common ancestor is appalling to many--especially the religious. But note that many religions state that humans spring from religious origins--i.e. directly created by some god.

Darwin(1871) proposed Africa as the place of human origins, because the closest animals to humans were the primates--of chimpanzees and apes, which lived in Africa. How old is it?
