Hi Debs, welcome to the world of confusion!

There are different Orfi contracts. One is a white paper, signed in front of a lawyer, which basically says you can stay or be with this man without getting problems from the police etc. If this paper is not registered it can be ripped up and thats your divorce!

if this paper then goes on to be registered in the court in Luxor then you have a registered marriage and would need a divorce through the courts. Neither are valid by the laws in UK. For your marriage to be valid in UK you have to marry properly in Cairo Ministry of Justice, which all in all takes about 9 days.

How sure are you about this man? This contract is used so they can sleep with you and call themselves married, with the white paper they can have pretty much as many as they wish to.

If you are willing to go ahead with this you will not be married in UK.

If you don't learn from your mistakes, there's no sense making them.

Hi debs!!! Orfi is just a paper.... a man will tell you it's like an 'engagement' or 'marriage' contract. It's actually neither... it's what the locals here call a 'f ucking paper'... just allows them into your apartment without hassle from the tourist police!
It's considered by decent Egyptians to be immoral, and cheap! The guy will refer to you as 'my wife!'
He will probably also refer to next week's orfi as 'my wife' also!!

In Egypt, to ask a woman for an Orfi contract is the most disrespectful thing you can do. It's just as Samia said. Be careful for any man who would even suggest it to you. A proper man in his culture (don't go by your own cultural standards) would date a girl, get engaged, and get a real marriage. By the way, a real marriage is not done by a lawyer but is done at the actual government marriage office. Don't get tricked. Good Muslims don't have sex before marriage and those who are not the best Muslims but are good people do not contract a fake marriage in order to have sex.

I don't knew what are the plans for this man and We all can't go through his mind and read it and maybe guessing sometimes that he is not decent or he is looking for sex! because you won't allow sex if you don't want too.
ORFI PAPER.... it's a protection that local egyptians who have ties with forigner women take it to avoid tourist police hassels everywhere,it's considered a permition from you to allow this man into your hotel room and to escort you anywhere .....

thank you for all your replies, it certainly has given me food for thought, and I will think very carefully before I do this, but to be honest I probably wont go ahead until I get to know this man alot more, all seems very romantic whilst your in Egypt but when you head back home and reality steps in its oh so different.
