Hi Gladys. I found an excellent range on Amazon.com. Mine was Pimsular egyptian Arabic conversation. Really good, apart from I left one of the CDs on the train recently with my walkman - not so clever! Good luck

Linguaphone and Waterstones bookstores do a beginners course = 4 CDs and a book, for around £25.

pimsleur collogial egyptian arabic is the best and quickest on the market, without a doubt. It is the one used by the CIA and FBI. Its available on CD's and you can find it usually on ebay.co.uk

I'm not to great with modern technology so can't paste the link, but if you go to ebay, and just type in pimsleur arabic, in the search box, it brings up a good selection, including beginners Egyptian Arabic.
Its about £10 before p&p. [Wink]

amazon.com and here is the link to pimsleur site also https://ww3.pimsleurapproach.com/include/lp/emcamscpatv2a/lp017.asp?learn=ArabicEg

I am planning on ordering it myself but for now i've purchased a book from a local barnes and noble that is to teach me how to read and write it, the writing is ok but my mind doesnt seem to be retaining how to read it. I am however picking up the phonetic of it well, lol not exactly what my goal was. So my next step is to order the egyptian arabic to learn to speak it.

This is where i have ordered my egyptian arabic course through, should be here in a few days but i did the online demo and it is going to work very well. They have 3 different courses you can order, i did the full one for all 30 lessons

update on the pimsleur course it is definitely worth the money. I recieved it early this week and am learning very quickly and more than i expected in each lesson. I am repeating each lesson 2 times just to be sure i understand it before i move on to the next but each lesson refreshes what you have learned before. Very good.

I have a number of books, CDs, software programs, it really depends how you will communicate in Egypt and at what level you want to communicate.

http://www.egyptianarabic.com/expat-professional.asp

Its $49 (sale price) and its really an awesome program.

For regular patrons of the local public library, you need to check out the netlibrary.com option. Here is a screen print of how I access the pimsleur Egyptian-Arabic CDs:

Just go to your public library website, put in your name and barcode from your library card and create a netlibrary account.

My public library has 122 different language CD programs. Its a 3 week loan and you don't have to go through any return process because it will just not open after 3 weeks. Then you'd have to check it out (borrow) again for another 3 weeks.

Another great reason to use the Egyptian-Arabic program from the first hyperlink above:

Great practice, plus matching the Egy-Arabi transliterationi with English.

http://www.questiontools.com/ doesn't have a matching option, but I think if I can find a javascript applet then I can create a few webpages to practice matching the transliteration with english.
