POSITION DESCRIPTIONTITLE: In-Country Project Coordinator, Hepatitis C in Egypt Project
HOURS: Full Time or 30 hours per week
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Project Coordinator reports to the US-based Program Manager (Kara Nygaard), the Egypt Scientific Panel, and the Egypt Director (Dr. Wakil). This position is accountable for all management of the Hepatitis C in Egypt project, providing training, grants and other support to scientists to address the epidemic of hepatitis C in Egypt.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage Hepatitis C in Egypt project office
Work with the team of logistics manager and accountant under the direction of Egypt Scientific Panel, SSI (US-based) Program Manager and director.
Coordinate with Egypt Scientific Panel, SSI (US-based) Program Manager and logistician to formulate and achieve the goals of the program.
Track project budget and expenditures in collaboration with logistics/accountant
Maintain and expand contacts in Egypt to further project goals and plans
Submit biannual assessments of overall project progress
Write reports for SSI newsletter related to the projects in Egypt
Edit and/or review scientific publications
Assist with writing project proposals (particularly providing assistance in English writing)
2. SSI Egypt Projects
A. Coordinate Training Program for Hepatitis C in Egypt
Coordinate annual training workshops in Egypt on a variety of topics relevant to hepatitis C in Egypt. Workshop participants are Egyptian investigators
Assist with development of curriculum and recruitment of instructors
Work with Egyptian colleagues to ensure workshop success
Coordinate workshop logistics, travel and training budget
Write post-workshop report and create database of contacts, panel members, participants
B. Coordinate the Small Grants Program which provide funding to young investigators performing research on hepatitis C in Egypt
Coordinate preliminary reviews of candidates & feedback between candidates and Egypt Scientific Panel
Coordinate final proposal receipt and review process, and grantee selection
Manage the grant contract process with grantees
Meet with grantees monthly to monitor the progress of research (ie. first Sunday of each month)
Collect grantee reports: bimonthly, mid-term report (at 6 months), and final report (after 12 months)
Meet monthly with Ahmed to make sure funding is as expected
C. Information Technology Program
ί Implement program of access to online journals and databases for Egyptian researchers
ί Design and implement with Mar-Jan Ostrowski and Kara Nygaard
D. Fellowship Program
ί Facilitate and coordinate with Egyptian Scientific Panel
ί Organize, initiate and carry our this program (recruitment of applicants, application process, selection, etc)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Plan, initiate and manage programs. Must be able to communicate effectively with Egyptian colleagues and US-based volunteers and staff. Professional-level fluency in English (speaking and writing) required. Prior work experience in public health and MPH or related degree preferred. Must be proactive, professional, and resourceful. Prior nonprofit or academic employment experience strongly preferred. Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively in collaborative and supervisory relationships. Ability to create and maintain budgets and perform expenditure tracking. Knowledge and drive to open an office based in Cairo in the future. This position is located in Cairo.
SALARY: depending on experience
