Personally we just throw her in and she floats. Salt content plus all that baby fat.
A few countries have cultural centers which will have information like this. Red Cross occasionally will offer first aid and swimming lessons, but in certain countries, I don't know about Egypt.

Thanks 7aya, thanks sonomod! That was quite helpful! I guess we do have a 'red crescent' institution here in cairo, which is supposed to be the equivalent of red cross-or so i think! As for the clubs around-i know that most of them would have lessons, but i'm wondering if there r any other private clubs, available for just about anyone, without yearly memberships, such as a bigger health club/hotel or something..?

If they charge $8 for a spinning class for non-members and $5 for members there must be a negotiable exchange for swimming lessons.
I wondered the same and asked my hubby about it. He had some sort of swimming lessons in Alex, but doesn't remember.
Either she will start her swimming lessons here or when we all get over there I must look for that and some sort of musical instrument lessons.
There are community bulletin boards in well visited expat hangouts. Likelihood of lessons being offered in Maadi. Or email some 4 star hotels that cater to foreigners. I am sure I could get the little girl swimming lessons at Sheraton Montazah Hotel in Alex.
