Be careful. Hospitals and doctors in Hurghada and El Gouna are highly variable and you have no way of knowing up front. We have witnessed and heard of many occasions of dangerous malpractice. You need to go to Cairo and do your research to be safe.

Sharm is becoming very international. They even have foreign visiting surgeons.
But I still would prefer Cairo.

In El Gouna the developers sell properties with the promise of a top quality European standard hospital and doctors in the resort. But it is not. It is more dangerous than the hospitals in Hurghada. They tried to make it a big money making place by bringing in cheapest low quality doctors and charging more. Also, they say they have 'specialists' who are not specialists. Some have even been unqualified. So, be careful.

Whatever you do, don't even contemplate having surgery in Egypt. I was unfortunate enough to need an op and went to one of the best hospitals in Cairo. I don't know what the surgeon thought the protective plastic gloves were for, but they certainly were NOT for putting on his hands!
I fought a raging infection for 3 months, so think carefully.

Sorry for what happened. I'm sure however this is not the norm in Cairo or even Egypt in general. Just as there are some great surgeons in Egypt, there are terrible ones. Let's not generalize and advise others to not "even contemplate having surgery in Egypt".
