As far as I know, there is no customs on books coming into Egypt...I've never had to pay anything on them. However, when I wanted to order some books from Amazon, they said that they couldn't deliver certain ones to Egypt...not sure why as they were academic books, and not risque ones at that

But then again, maybe it was the "How to Knock Off a President in Five Easy Lessons" that did it

Hi Karim. I believe that books are one of the very few things you can buy internationally and not pay taxes on, regardless of country(I think).
A friend of mine buys lots of books from japan and is never charged customs. I assume it would be the same for Egypt. CDs and DVDs, though, are different

I made an order from amazon and it came in 3 packages. All books, no CDs or DVDs. The first was delivered to my house with no charges at all. The second was deliverd to my house and i had to pay some charges. About 80 pounds. The third package wasn't delivered to my house but I had to collect it at the post office and pay charges! About 50 Pounds.
So, in short, there is no system.
