As a scot I would be offended if a Middleditch wore a tartan. How can an englishman wear a plaid if he has no clan? It's a hanging offence!! Hang , draw and quarter them english!!! hahaha To be honest here in Cairo many of the women wear the hijab as a fashion. The whole idea of hijab is to draw the attention away from the woman. But today the women here use brightly coloured, sparkly, beautiful fabrics that draw attention to their faces. They also wear them tied in a bun effect behind the head. I have to say it looks very nice. It is a very nice fashion but not islamic in any way, more a matching accessory. Especially if they combine it with the tight jeans and extra tight polo necks. I wouldnt think many egyptian women of this type would be offended at all? Their style is very european. Possibly the older and more balady or religious would?
