Brotherhood Students Wounded, Arrested At Egyptian University

Cairo, Egypt (AHN) - Egyptian security forces at the University of Fayoum clashed with a number of students from the Muslim brotherhood on Tuesday after the forces chased them down, wounded five of them and arrested three in the process. One of the wounded students is at a local hospital where he sustained a concussion.
The University accused the students of smuggling papers that promote a prohibited group.
The Muslim Brotherhood is officially banned in Egypt, but members of the organization gained nearly 25 percent of seats in Parliament in 2005 running as independents.
The late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser began the crackdown in the 1950s by prohibiting any political activities from the organization after blaming them of trying to assassinate him.
A few days before the incident in Fayoum, two other students were arrested, one at the gates of the university and the other from his home. Both students were jailed for 15 days under investigation, the group's Web site reported.
The latest crackdown on the students came only days after the Minister of Education visited the university and had an open debate with students.
Other students told reporters that the university is like a fortress now, including excessive search procedures at the gates is being enforced since the clashes earlier this week.
