We were driving back this morning from Sinai and planned a quick stop at the Oyun Musa ( Moses Spring) to have a peek, but took the wrong turning and found a great little place that might be of interest to anyone driving from Suez to the South of Sinai. [Wink]

Once you are through the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel at Suez and you meet the main road south about 20km on your left you will see something called Oyun Musa Fortified Artillery Base.
You will know it because it has a HUGE!! cammo commando helmet outside it [Eek!] .
Now we have passed this so many times and thought it was just another military installation 'Out of Bounds' area, like you see everywhere around Ismailia, Suez etc.

DON'T drive on buy it next time.

Just follow the path a short distance and you will see quite a few soldiers there giving little tours.
2Le will buy you a lovely little guided tour by one of the soldiers, and they give you all the history of it.
In 1967 when Israel invaded Egypt and took control of Sinai, they made lots of bunker type things like this. Thankfully they failed to take over this part of the world and Egypt regained their land back in 1973 when they shelled the Israeli's.

The Israeli's lifted all the railroad tracks [Frown] that once joined Port Said, to Arish, through Palestine etc, and used them to reinforce their bunkers . You can see miles of them all used as roofs.
The soldier took us into the General's Bunker and you saw his desk and loads of artifacts, through trenches, all once linked up .
He told us horrifying stories of what the Israeli's done to pregnant Egyptian women [Confused] ,and how they ran their tanks over the Egyptian soldiers they made lie down in front of them!!
nothing changed really after seeing the women and kids waving white flags in Gaza and being gunned down [Roll Eyes]

showed us framed verses in the bunkers and their rooms underground written in Hebrew by them saying that all of this land was theirs, explained that the Israeli flag has 2 blue lines on it. Representing THEIR Nile river! , the other is THEIR Euphrates! which is their's alone and they will always try to reclaim, as they are the 'chosen people'.
The other part of the flag has the Star of David in blue.
So every time you see an Israeli flag it's a reminder to you that the Nile to the Euphrates belongs to Israel.

The verses talk of Zionism.

You will be guided around Howitzers which have 23Km range and on a vantage point they launched them on Suez and it's people, destroying the city.
De activated Shells by the Howitzers of 3 types. One to produce smoke ( sound familiar? Phosphorus in Gaza?? [Roll Eyes] )on for lighting up the area, and the other filled with TNT for bombing Suez. You can see them, boxes of them and inserts in the walls to store them. Some had Anaheim ( the only Anaheim I know is the one we were in in LA??? ) printed on them, all in English language. Looked very like the ones we saw the last month where the Israeli girl is writing with felt pen on it messages to kill the Gazans.

Walked further up the hill to the vantage point where there is a huge pair of Binoculars you can see through right over to Suez.
At the top is the Tourist Centre with lots of Israeli personal things like shaving creams, toothbrushes, clothes, phones etc. Then cases full of Bazooka's, Uzi's, and other rifles and rocket launchers I can't remember the names of. Rounds of ammunition, more binoculars and stuff.
He will show you the mine field and some huge artillery on platforms.
The guide was brilliant, just a regular soldier I think, in cammo with great knowledge and all for 2Le ( tip him too though )

If you drive past this you really should stop by and have a look, also support these soldiers who are so nice. It has a little restroom too with drinks.

It really brought home to me by being inside these bunkers and on Egyptian land how close Gaza is to places like Cairo.
If you read the framed verses they have hand written in Hebrew, we should always be aware of the 'Danger' that lies just over those hills.

Next week we will go to the 'real ' Oyun Musa' and I will report back to ya'll
