A survey conducted by the American World Public Opinion Institute said 94% of the Egyptians believe women got more equality rights than they deserve, with 77% preferring the government should not support protecting women from discrimination in society.
The survey said 95% of the Egyptians believe that the government was doing enough for women, compared with 17% calling for a greater role, and 70% considering the intervention of the United Nations with regard to equality and women's rights as a blatant interference in the internal affairs of the State.
In the same context, another survey of the same institute about discrimination against divorced women and widows in the world said 53% of the Egyptians do not see any discrimination against widows in society, while 80% said divorced women are treated badly compared with other women in Egyptian society.
