In many modern depictions of ancient Egyptians, the men are often given long, straight black hair. How common was this hairstyle in reality?

^ Ausar has stated on numerous occassions that Egyptians usually have short hair and so either wore wigs or extensions.
You'd be surprised, but I've seen pictures of people from other parts of Africa who wear wigs that give a 'straight-haired' appearance strikingly similar to those in Egyptian iconography.
