He was a close associate of Diop. He worked very closely with Diop and supplemented much of his work when he was alive. His area of expertise is language (he's a linguist). His primary work is to identify genetic relationships between African languages. He attended the UNESCO colloquium along with DIOP in 1974 which was a landmark discussion on the origin of the Egyptian state. It was both he and Diop who at that conference began to shift the paradigm towards the idea that Egypt was an African civilization.
