I remembered someone posted something about a tradition that magicians who battled Moses came from ancient Ghana not Ghana of the forest zone but the more ancient one that Mali took over,I posted a thread over at ESR about the possibility that the Kingdom of Yam may very well be connected to Wagadu, but I wanted to find that link or post. http://egyptsearchreloaded.proboards.com/thread/1923/dar-tichitt-walata-yam Help a Brada out.

I think the magicians in that legend were from around Gao someplace. What I immediately have narrowing the location down is from Lugard (link). I am writing off the cuff but if need be will scour other references for you like its tarikh source.
OK the city was Kukiya. Not the tarikh but check out Maiga (link).
Find Kukya on this map. Start at the Niger River's parabola (Timbuktu) and follow downriver to Gao and a little further downriver is Kukya.

Nuff Respects Bro Al-Takruri A little out of traditional Wagadu territory but tantalizingly close.
