I have discussed this before that ancient Egyptians were not biased in our modern age,but not without its chauvanistic phase. A quality found in many ancient soceities. Something that still plagues us today.

The ancient Egyptians saw foreigners as being represenatives of Isofret[chasos] and it was the duty of the pharaoh to balance out the chasos and bring ma'at.

Each foreigner got a chance to assimilate into ancient Egyptian soceity as long as one lived as the Egyptians. We see that ancient Egyptians were a very metropolitan people often adapting foreign technologgy and incorporating it into their own.

Given this, it's difficult to fathom the kemetian approach to their military, which was often heavily 'staffed' with foreigners.

Is this simply because the military was regarded as a 'low' occupation?

No, because actually the military were treated better than the average Egyptian according to the Satire of Trades. Definately a lower position than say a scribe but still a worthy occupation.

Many of these military veterns intermarried with Egyptians and probably did assimilate into the Egyptian culture.

During the Old Kingdom Egyptians were not that hostile, but around the Middle Kingdom became more and more hostile towards foreigners to the south and north.
