OK all you so-called metal heads. Let's see who ya like!

Dokken and queensryche are MAJOR METAL BRO...
Hahaaahaa.
I had some quality time listening to Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica, and, especially, Black Flag - "Kerosene,"
Do Dead Kennedys qualitfy as metal?
That was on the way to school, never in the house, except on my little headphones. Shhh.
[Big Grin]

I love so much of it. It all depends on your definition. I love metal and hard rock.

In my youth I used to like King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, bands like that. Then in the mid 80s I got heavily into thrash - Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Crimson Glory (3rd loudest gig ever in British history was at the Hammersmith Odean in London was Metal Church, Anthrax and Crimson Glory in something like 1988 - wow it was fabulous), Flotsam and Jetsam (my old bikers jacket has the cover of 'Doomsday for the Deceiver' painted on the back in enamels by my sister's fair hands).
Plus all those bands like Atheist, Death, Toranaga, Onslaught etc.
Around the early 90s I started moving into death metal and now doom metal ('death metal with keyboards and/or violins'). My Dying Bride, Cradle of Filth, Elend, Amorphis. Cathedral, Napalm Death etc etc... too many to mention - I'm feeling nostalgic now.
I used to go to gigs every week down the Marquee (RIP) or other venues no longer in existence in London. I can't remember the last time I went - I went with a friend to see Dio a couple of months ago, before that I think it was a year or more since I went. I'm getting OLDDDDD [Frown]

Yes I think the Dead Kennedy's count - Holiday in cambodia - they're on that 'cross over' end between thrash and punk I think.

I don't know if it's considered metal, but I'm a big fan of System of a Down. [Confused]
(by the way my Egyptian husband thinks it's the worst thing he's ever heard) [Big Grin]

Go Nooralhaq! I think they are ok-my brother loves them, and rage against the machine.
I love and will always love the Pixies. Not metal but love em!

Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin.. those are my old favorites. My new faves are not exactly metal but more hard rock/alternative. Coheed & Cambria, My Chemical Romance, White Stripes, Marilyn Manson, Green Day, NIN, Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, System of a Down, Staind. I'm also a closet fan of some of the cheesier hair metal bands ie Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, and Poison. Yes, I know it's kinda unforgivable.

Noor, my husband also thinks it's some of the noisiest crap he's ever heard [Big Grin]

My husband doesn't care what I listen to.

He does get a little irritated when I listen to Arab music. I don't understand the lyrics so he can't understand why I like it.

Did you see that Playgirl spread of Peter North, his "Standing at Attention" for the camera?

I left my playgirl collection at my father's house when I moved. He is probably still sighing from relief that I am hetro.

But DAAAAAAMMMMNNNNNN!!!!! What a MAN! [Eek!] Now thats a physique worth cloning.

I am still having dreams about him. He is amazing. But now he's a porn producer. He wasn't able to convince a record label to produce his music, so he turned to his other talent. [Wink]

The Fear Factory song "revive" is one of my favorite metal songs. Does anybody here listen to Blind Guardian??

Melody and harmony wise, its the worst stuff around.

Whats amusing is just how guyish a bunch of metal heads can be. After seeing so many glam rockers, these guy bunch of thugs was refreshing.

Nice to hear a voice that isn't fallsetto and to see guys who don't wear women's clothing.

I have a Ministry song "New World Order" that has a Type O Negative chorus mixed into it. And its definately Peter harping on what he knows best!

Someone told me there is a really well made documentary about those guys from metallica, and they are all depressed and in therapy and anger mgmt programs with each other. Anyone seen it?
Is that why they sing that " nothing else matters" song?

Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Dokken, Queensryche, Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy, Twisted Sister, Whitesnake and White lion, Bonfire, Pretty Maids, Running Wild, Anthrax (NOT!), Testament, Slayer (until such time they released their wretched album "Divine Intervention), Deep Purple, Lynch Mob, Don Dokken, Journey, Cynic, Bad Lands, Bad English, Megadeth, the ooooold Gary Moore stuff like Run for Cover and Victims of the Future, Dio. I know some of this stuff does not necessarily qualify as metal but it's my playlist since i was in hig school. I've now mellowed up a bit and listen to Jethro Tull and Rush most of the time, in addition to those times i sit with my wife while Simon & Garfunkel (was that spelled right) or Bob Dylan playing in the background. As a guitar player, i also listen to some instrumental stuff like Tony MacAlpine, Satriani, Vai, Eric Johnson, James Murphy, Buckethead, Neal Schon, Neal Zaza and the list goes on.

KEEP ON ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD

Mirox, If you like Buckethead you might check out PRAXIS - "Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis)" - if you haven't already. Very wacky Buckethead, Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell (Wizard of WOO) stuff by Bill Laswell.
By the way Parliament/Funkadelic's Worrell has a myspace page!

Haven't seen it but apparently its unintentionally hilarious - like Spinal tap.
I remember reading an interview with them many years ago - they were flying somewhere to do a gig and hit bad turbulence, apparently they all got down on their knees and prayed to god promising never to sing about satan again if they lived [Cool]

Here is some bands that I like

- Opeth
- Arch Enemy
- Cannibal Corpse
- Nile (great death band)
- Marilyn Manson
- Pink Floyd

Posted by minry80 (Member # 8287) on :

Cannibal corpse?? I can't get past their CD covers! I do like Opeth though.

Posted by Black Rose Immortal (Member # 10497) on :

Yeah they are gore obsessed freaks lol, I like that stuff.

Pink Floyd isnt a metal band but I had to include it they are one of my favs.

Posted by minry80 (Member # 8287) on :

Some of Manson's songs are catchy but I went to a concert of his and was seriously freaked out. First the people in line ahead of me tried to smuggle in a dead rat in a coffin. Then These guys with fangs kept trying to read me the satanic bible. I even got through Manson cutting himself open. I stayed until Manson had the whole place chanting "We hate God. We love hate." I couldn't handle it and I had to leave.

Damn your sooo lucky !!! We dont even have metal gigs here though iam sure there is but I dont know about them.

Posted by minry80 (Member # 8287) on :

Do you like Clutch? I was lucky in my younger years. My ex husband wrote for a heavy metal magazine.

Posted by Black Rose Immortal (Member # 10497) on :

I've heard about them, listened to a song of theirs cant remember its name though.

Iam into melodic/progressive death bands, they are the best at instruments.

I would kill for a Manson concert lol, though he is one hell of a poser.

Posted by Melati (Member # 9610) on :

Oh I remember when he was in concert here, and all the goths went to see him and it was in this suburb called enmore, it was a hoot seeing all these teenagers dressed up and sombre ready to pay obeisance to their darklord..LOL.
I saw an interview with him about lyrics in music making people do the columbine high kind of thing, and he came off very intelligent and well thought, and meek really.
I quite like some of the stylist work on his videos, that sort of burlesque military look.

My colleague from work ( who is the most glamorous and non-metal looking woman you have every seen) is off to see Korn!-are they the ones who wear scary clown masks thingys?
And last year she saw Nine Inch Nails and said they were excellent.
