In USA there is a practice that Native American film characters should be played by Native American actors (even if there are exceptions).

That leads to the question if not also other ethnic groups should, if possible be represented by actors of their own ethnic group? Thus we have earlier discussed how ancient Egyptians are portraid in American films. We have seen that both actors of European descent and African Americans have portraid the Egyptian characters. But we have not seen so many Egyptians (whether dark skinned or light skinned) playing ancient Egyptians in western film. Sometimes we also see Arab historical figures played by Europeans (like when Antonio Banderas portraid Arabian traveller Ibn Fadlan in The 13th Warrior).

So ought we be more careful, and fair, when it comes to ethnic representation on film?
