Posted by ackee (Member # 16371) on :
Yea King one thing i know about these people that once they get into something they go deep. for example there have been meny a times i have been upstaged by some pie bald, bispeckled, suit wearing salaryman.who could school me and most other reggae lover i know about who produced this or that album or single releses i never even heard of. but there are two distinc schools and they rarely mix at events; one is roots N culture, you know people like Bob Marley,Peter Tosh,Ras Micheal and the sons of negus. and you got those who are into dance hall, elephant-man Beeni man lady Saw Sean paul etc.btw they have their own home grown reggae artist, some of whom i know personally groupes like Baghdad Cafe Raggae Diskrockers.also a Japanese sound systems group, walk away with the sound clash throphy last year in Jamaica youtube Mighty Crown.also and you may not like this but dance queen contest is really popular in the undergrown seen.

You can't really judge Jay-z off his recent stuff. He put out a classic album called Dead Presidents back in 95. All his stuff know, while good, is not what I would consider great.
In terms of a good lyricist and storyteller Nas is far superior. Jay-z does have nice catch phrases.

LMAO look past the rapper, and even some of the lyrics...it's the theme that matters. There is a message in the theme.
Posted by ackee (Member # 16371) on :
@ all the over 30 crowd, you see what Ah mean? no longer is it enough to listen and try to dessicifer the lyrics now you have to look past the artist and try and understand his damned theme? Well miss Dunbar would never put up with sh..t in her music appreciation class.

I used to totally dislike Jay-Z's music. I didn't see what my friends liked in 'Reasonable Doubt' I thought it was wiered... at the time I was totally into Pac (totally obsessed).
But one day in the common room during my 'A' levels (down in Essex ), someone brought in the newly released 'Life and Times... vol. 1' CD and turned up that track Jigga What, Jigga Who , Dang! that track was BANGIN', and that TYPE of beat was new to hip hop (for me anyway) at the time and I was just AMAZED at how he put his flow to the track.

Lord Sauron:wrote Not real yogurt man, those milky ones they sell in bottles in some stores in Lagos. So what is it made from?
Posted by NEWMIND2 (Member # 11484) on :
^ I think he's talking about how Nigerians can sell anything to anyone and call it whatever they want. It's milk with some yogurt in it (ok, yogurt is made from milk but they're not the same thing).
I'm not talking about YeoValley Organic Premium Yogurt (i.e. real Yogurt), that would not mix well with Guinness.
Posted by ackee (Member # 16371) on :
