We've been trying to figure out some good names for our baby (it's due to born in the mid september). We don't know if it's gonna be a boy or a girl, but in anyway we need some nice name for her/him. And in the same time it should be something international. Daddy's egyptian and i'm from scandinavia..so something that can be used in both of the countries. It can't be direct muslim name (I don't want)..
So I'm asking U, any suggestions?

Sarah as a girls-name is international...
For boys I shouldn`t know. All the international names who are familiar in Egypt I know, have a Christian relation and when your husband is Muslim, he shall have problems with that.

About Sarah we've talked about it, but he has a friend from childhood that is Sarah, so he don't want that..
we're thinking about Adam for a boy, but in the end i don't know if i like it so much..So plz any other suggestions??

What about 'Charlotte' for a girl ?? I gave this name to my daughter and she likes it ... Am I lucky !! [Wink] [Wink]

when I was pregnant with Sam, I thought I was having a girl, and couldnt decide on either Charlotte or Sophie.

When HE was born, I had to quickly think of a male name, and came up with Samuel Curtis.

Thing is, I was embroidering a cot bumper to go all the way around the cot - I embroidered it with lots of childrens motifs and the word 'Baby' because I couldnt decide on the name. What if I had embroidered a girl's name?!?!?

I always loved:
Victoria
Georgia
Alexandra

[Big Grin]
(Charlotte is a nice name, too, I have a good friend with this name and she's adorable). [Smile]

[Big Grin]

Charlotte's a great name [Wink]

I'm currently trying out some new baby names in my head to see if I like them or not - or if any one in particular jumps out as being THE one!

We've got a couple of months longer to wait than you, @nna - ours is due in November, but we find out at the end of this week whether it's a boy or a girl.

If it's a boy, it'll be one of these: Fadi, Dani, Joesph/Youssef, Karim, Ramzi, Jonah/Younes.

Or for a girl, it's probably going to be Hana, Madeleine, Safiyah, or Amira.

Don't you think then it takes the surprise away only in certain medical issues should you know the sex of the baby .We had a problem here in our city a long time back well before my other child was born Musim women were having abortions yes and we know its haram to do so if its not harmful to the mother but they they was finding the sex of the gender before it was born through advance scanning if they was carrying a Girl the family exspecially the father of a domineering attitude did not want this Boys only it has happend its a known fact ,so they stopped it here and only now done in the most urgent cases .The modern muslim does not care today of certain traditions and family issues most the time they ignore pressure from the elders but this is my opinion .But as im say Good luck hope it all goes well .

Well since I have many Arab friends (in real life), married to an Egyptian who has an Egyptian family I actually know more than a couple Aymans. I doubt anyone here knows who I'm referring to.

For me, I don't even wanna know the sex of the baby, so this is the reason I'm asking about names for both of the sexes. In my country, in the hospital when u go to the ultrascan the staff don't wanna tell u which one u'll have. Coz it's not 100% sure, so they think it's better not to say anything..

Posted by get_over_it (Member # 11286) on :

I think it's a personal choice - some people want to know, some don't! I am not good with surprises, and this last 24 hours before we find out is going to be hard work!

We're having the same difficulties as you with names, @nna, so part of the reason for us wanting to know the sex is so that we can cut the name 'debates' [Wink] by 50 per cent, and then have the next few months finding a name that we both love and agree on, rather than being put on the spot in the hours and days after the birth.

Also, I want to get things prepared - baby clothes, the nursery etc, and it'll be so much easier when we know which "direction" we're heading in! So as I said, it's a personal choice - and we'll be thrilled to bits with whichever way the scan goes tomorrow, it's a blessing indeed.

I agree that it's a personal choice wether u wanna know or not, and i think it'll help u a lot a know, but like u said get_over_it, it's my choice not to wanna know..

How has ur pregnancy gone so far, get_over_it? i hope well..r u staying in egypt?

Posted by get_over_it (Member # 11286) on :

[Smile] exactly - sometimes I wish I could be patient and wait until the surprise in the delivery room. It's the ultimate surprise, I guess - and you haven't got long to wait now! Do you have any feelings as to what your baby is going to be? I don't know why, but I think I'm having a boy, although my husband is determined it's a girl!

I'm finally enjoying the blossoming stage of pregnancy, after being really sick for the first 4 months! [Frown] Hope it's been better for you.

We're in England - my husband's been here for a year and a half now and is so excited about the baby. His family in Egypt are desperate for us to visit as soon as we can after the birth, but I think we'll wait a few months and just take our time to get used to life with a newborn...

Good luck!

"after being really sick for the first 4 months" [Frown]

I think (just think) you will have a boy then [Wink]
I was 4 months sick from my boy (I lost weight instead of gaining some [Frown] [Frown] ) and 8 months sick from my girl ...

I hope you are surrounded by nice and loving people ... cos these are the times you really need it...
Good luck !!

I had two Egyptian friends of my son at the house this afternoon.
Their names are Tarek and Hisham.

They said Tarek means 'strong star' and Hisham means 'hospitality'.

I have no idea if they were not kidding me [Wink] but they were veryy polite and sweet kids and therefor I wanted to add their names here [Smile]
