Ahmed, at first go to a specialist and let him find out if infact you have asthmatic problems. You could also have a bronchitis or pneumonia. Or you could have inhaled something what affected severely your lungs. What other problems do you have? Do you have chest pains? Do you bring up mucus?

If you infact suffering so suddenly from asthma the cause has to be found out. Did you ever had problems like this before (breathing difficulties especially if you are making exercises, inhalted lot of cigarette smoke, are allergic to certain animal hair, etc...) There are many reason a person can become asthmatic. You know no one develops it suddenly just like that.

Please don't take too many puffs of your asthma medication because infact it makes dizzy and your heart is racing. I know that just quite well because I am asthmatic myself. My problems lessened since approximately one year (thanks to Advair medication) but I also try to avoid many things what could trigger my asthma. I am not sure if Advair is sold - even under another name - in Egypt. But at first you need to undergo couple of testing to figure out what causes your asthma.

Hope you are feeling better soon. I know how difficult and frightening it is not being able to breath correctly.

Please take good care of yourself.... and make some real friends in life - not just virtual ones. [Wink]

I had to do some research on Asthma a while ago when working on a campaign for an asthma medicine and was quite shocked at the fact that there are so many people suffering from it. Particularly in Cairo the percentage of people with Asthma is very high and many of them are children.

However, another thing I discovered is that it is indeed possible to lead a normal life when you have Asthma, there are even worldclass athletes who suffer from it!

So keep your chin and your spirits up, Andre. Salamtak! [Smile]

My youngest son has asthma. He's had it since he was 4 yrs old. Asthma can be brought on by certain triggers, smoke, exercise, a cold, etc. My son's is cold triggered asthma. When he starts his dry coughing I give him a breathing treatment with a nebulizer and Albuterol. We also have an inhaler handy just in case. It's a scary thing and nothing to be taken lightly. Ahmed, you should consider seeing an Allergist to determine your specific trigger and discuss treatment options. I'm sorry you don't have a good support system near you. Would a hug help? ((((((Ahmed))))))

I hope you feel beter Ahmed.

You can research online about asthma, maybe you should check your home for lead in the house, open the windows for the fresh air every morning and keep it for an hour, check your home for dust, and basically eliminate all factors around you that could trigger symptoms. Check your pillows, covers, blankets. Take medicine on time always and don't skip any doze.

You got to face illness as part of the life, and learn how to take care of yourself. I hope you recover soon. [Smile]

Good morning, Ahmed, how are you doing today?

I've checked out your medication and something surprised me here totally:

Singulair is infact an asthma medication and quite popular but she also prescribed you Klacid 500g which is an antibiotic and gets prescribed to fight bacterial infections. You know to say someone has indeed asthma takes more to it, especially testing and research the family history.

I couldn't find anything about Silmot syrup but I guess it is a coughing med, Afrin is a nose spray, what is Teflas?

I think you came down with a acute bronchitis (which gets usually triggered by viruses) .......no indication for asthma. I mean you never had these symptoms before only once when you were one year old?

http://edition.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/DS/00031.html

Please see a specialist after you get better and clarify. And please don't worry you will be fit again in no time and play football. Take care and let us know when you are healthy like a 'fish in the water' again. [Wink]

Ahmed, here is a natural treatment for asthma!

Every day you must drink a cup of tea (Origanum vulgare), in wich you melt lime-tree honey (one teaspoon).

Also, you take 100 gms of fat, fir-tree resin and pure bee-wax (each one the size of a nut). You melt them toghether, in a pot, on a very slow fire, and you will get an ointment.

You take this ointment, when it's still slightly warm, and you massage it, in a very thin layer, on your chest, closest to your throat.

Also, when you are in a crisis, you mix a teaspoon of honey with a raw yolk and with a little amount of garlic (well smashed). You swallow it slowly, with small sips.

I really hope you'll be better, child! May God bless you and protect your health! [Smile]

Hi AndreAhmed
My son became asthmatic when he was about 10 years old. Fortunately he was never severely affected like some people I know of.
When he was in his teens he was a trainee football player for a premiership team in the UK. The only time he had a problem was when he insisted playing when he had a heavy cold and he ended up collapsing on the field and being carried off. Believe it or not but exercise is good for you but you have to know your limits and not push yourself too hard, and I am sure you will play football again.
One thing I want to warn you about is not to take any medications that contain aspirin, as aspirin is known to affect asthmatics quite severely, we found this out through a bad experience.
For the last 5 or 6 years my son hasn't had any need to use medications as he seems to have grown out of it and he still plays football but never went on to play it professionally unfortunately.
Many of the products used to treat asthma contain strong steroids so you must be carefull not to overuse them and always rinse your mouth out with cold water if you do get to use an inhaler.
One of the milder inhalers is 'Ventolin' (blue container) and I know this is available in Egypt because I bought one in Luxor for 10LE. On my doctor's advice I use the ventolin inhaler as I sometimes get shortness of breath. Good luck and take care

Hi Ahmed, Just wondered how you are feeling now, Any better?
I noted in your post to Tigerlily that you mentioned about your sense of smell has improved. The only thing I might say on that is that it is possibly due to you having had some nasal conjestion previously, not related to your asthma but co-incidentally improved lately. Sometimes nasal conjestion can build up very gradually so you are not aware that your sense of smell is affected. I am sure it is nothing to worry about. I know when I have had colds in the past, and when they start to clear your sense of smell gets stronger, sometimes to the point that it is quite uncomfortable to be around perfumes and strong scents, even to the point that it can make my head ache.
Hope you are feeling much better. Take care

Good luck with them.

Hi Ahmed,

I cannot understand why you have not been tested yet Ahmed. I believe Tigerlily gave you the best advice for the long run. And it is the right moment to test since you are in an active stage actually. I am not sure what is going on but I had to change doctors for we had this problem here too. Some believe 'allergy' is just an invented idea. Or they don't believe it is helpfull to stay away from certain foods or materials. I am sure it is helpfull. I have been allergic my whole life and I know it comes and goes, under stress or flu or severe triggers you can have problems with a lot of food and stuff, where in other times you don't have a problem at all. I have a new job now and the carpet is driving me 'running'and 'coughing' from housemite i guess, but I know if I take some medicine for awhile and stay away from wholeproteinmilk and other of my 'favourite'triggers like bananas I will be allright in a few weeks.
I remember being shortbreathed for eating potatoes! If you just got tested, you will have some idea what you're body does resist and can start (bit by bit) to remove it from you're diet and surroundings. If parfum can trigger you, you have to look at washingpowder (use one sort of em all the time and no softner in the machine).
Allright no more lectures but I hope you get the general idea!:-) Having asthma for 'cold' is just to small a concept.

The most attractive theory to me about all this allergy and asthma going around is that we had an explosion of combined food, chemical materials and substances in clothing, car's with their gasses, heavy industry and whatever after WWII. All these chemistry together makes new substances with new effects. Our bodies are evolutionary looking at it, not adjusted yet.
So the smart thing to do is lower you're intake especially on the allergene triggers like strawberry's, tomatoes, and more of elsewhere described firtschoices in allergenes, polluted air. Cook for yourself, fresh food with no additives. And learn about it and watch yourself. In the end allergy is a very practical trait.

I remember my Egyptian niece having to take milk and eggs heavily one day a week, since she had some problems with rachitis. You could watch the asthma-attack coming on right after it.
Almost all people in the ME don't take in wholeproteinmilk or lactose well and milk is still seen as the food for kids and healthy grownups.
