Does the word Sudan really mean black (Aswad)?
In ancient Egyptian the word for king is Suten which is equivalent to "southerner".
south sounds alot like Sudan.
In German the word for south is sud or suden
in dutch it is zuiden
in Italian it is sud
in danish it is zyd
swedish it is söder
Sudan may not be an arabic word but imported into arabic via Europe or Egypt meaning south
Bilad as Sudan may simply mean land of the south and the people Aswad (black)
what do you all think?

The arabic word sawad (black) may be related to the German or dutch swart/schwarz (black).
