Interesting article, although you have to purchase the magazine to read the entire thing.

It graphs the different genocides that have occurred in the past 100 years, the largest being China's murder of 30 million under Mao.

USSR - 20 million killed under Stalin
Germany - 11.4 million killed under Nazi rule
Japan - 10 million killed
Pakistan - 3 million killed
Sudan - 2.8 million killed (continues)
Nigeria - 2 million
Afghanistan - 1.8 million
Cambodia - 1.7 million
Turkey - 1.5 million
Indonesia - 1.2 million
Rwanda - 1 million
Iraq - 240,000 under Saddam's reign
Bosnia - 225,000

Searching for lost loved ones, a woman drifts through a schoolroom-turned-morgue packed with bundles of bones found in a mass grave in central Iraq. Thousands of Iraqis were murdered, tortured, or abducted during Saddam Hussein's 24-year rule. New investigations by forensic scientists from around the globe are uncovering remains, revealing what happened, and building a case against Hussein's regime.

Japan killed approximately 10 million people (according to NG), mostly Chinese, during the second Sino-Japanese War, beginning in 1937 I believe.

It started with:

"In the prelude to World War II, Japan invaded China in 1937. In December, the Japanese Imperial Army marched into China's capital city of Nanking, murdering an estimated 300,000 out of 600,000 civilians and soldiers in the city. Challenged to assert control over a population many times larger than its army, the Japanese resorted used mass murder to terrorize the Chinese. The so-called, Rape of Nanking was considered the single worst atrocity during the World War II era."

I think we are all aware that about 7O persons, mainly Christian Sudanese have been massacred in Cairo a couple of weeks back. That is genocide as well you know, and its going on right now in Egypt.
