You must have a google account in order to log in, but I have spent months querying through worldcat and couldn't find anything close.

at one time I really wanted a web database in regards to notable Egyptian people. Its a portion of the book, but I will try to find the entire text online somewhere!

Enjoy!

You can find copy of this book at alibris.com for under 10 $. You might want to purchase it.

Also check out the people listing for Egypt at wikipedia:

Unfortunately I am looking into books about Cairo's historical past which will cost me hefty.

Sorry not all the books advertised on albris.com are available through albris.com. Nor at the price the originally advertise.

There is a copy at the U of M, and when I have the time I will run down there and start making notes.

This is the best book on history of Cairo based on biographies:
http://books.google.com/books?vid=ISBN9774247019&id=CRtZOgtXM9gC&pg=PA182&lpg=PA182&ots=HfoSYI2EYU&dq=Cairo:+1001+years+of+the+city+victorious&sig=ZM9_NFycWyHcKR4cfF01FjLFaNI

Osman Effendi's story is there, and its a very good read!

But this is the best book I have found on Cairo's history:
Cairo: 1001 years of the city victorious
by Janet L Abu-Lughod - 1971
Cairo (Egypt)

I am working on obtaining a copy (not buying another book since I must get rid of over 600 books. I can't take them with me, but I can scan them and then give them away (within copywright laws).

Still can't find an electronic copy of the Janet L. Abu-Lughod books.

Actually I am looking into the timeframe of Cairo in between around 1900 - 1952 under British influence. I found some really great books (autobiographies of Westerners who lived specifically there) on Amazon, old copies though.

And e-bay.com has so many more interesting antique postcards to offer than the German one but slowly I am getting there.
