Cairo - Hollywood star Nicholas Cage will play late Egyptian president Anwar Sadat in an Egyptian television series, according to media reports Tuesday. Cage plans to lose six kilograms before he starts shooting for the series, for which he's getting paid 40 million dollars , al-Arabiya TV reported.

Egyptian writer Anis al-Degheidy, who wrote the series, recently announced that shooting was to start mid-2009. The show is to be directed by Lebanese Youssef Sharaf.

Al-Degheidy, who has written some controversial books including Saddam Was Not Executed, said the TV series would be in English and also dubbed in Arabic.

Biographical TV series have proved to be quite popular in Egypt. Last September, shows about late Egyptian president Gamal Abdul Nasser and Syrian actress-singer Asmahan were broadcast during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

It can perhaps be linked to the fury expressed within the thin layer of Egypt's Afrangi elites, when Louis Gossett Jr. played Sadat. As a matter of fact, this Egyptian-wannabe Afrangi elite had over the years, since "independence" from direct colonial regime, done everything in their power to turn Egypt into what they believed to be the role model for the Arab world and EPITOME of all things Arab, and thereby naming the country as an "Arab Republic".

An irony, isn't it? -- extremists in this thin layer of elites wanting to rid Egypt of any last vestige of anything African, all the while they apparently have no qualms about profiting from unparalleled autochthonous African ingenuity -- that is to say, what the Kemetians -- THE Africans and the *true* Egyptians -- left behind!

As for Mr. Cage; well, anybody in his shoes will likely do the same: play a role that will bring in the big bucks - yes, even if it means having to look ridiculous in doing so!

would you want to be associated with Africa? Not exactly the most positive image a country could have.

The answer to your simpleton query is: a resounding "Yes"!

On the other hand for those who say 'no' but live there, there is an old saying: you can always pack up and leave!

Trust me, Africans aren't exactly begging the parasitic totalitarian Afrangi Arabs and other minority parasites [like those from the so-called West] to stay in Africa against their own will. [Wink]

"so called west" Do we have problems telling west from east? North and south are fairly simple concepts as well.

Africa is being over run with immigrants from India. In 20 years they will be running the place.

That's right; the "so-called west"!

Simpleton-minded Patriot is convinced that this geopolitical construct is nothing more than just a simple concept of geographic direction: that is to simply say -- west, east, north, and south; hence, Patriot is tacitly declaring that beyond this simple concept, the 'west' is thus meaningless!

Well hey then, Africa is to the west of Asia. South and north America are to the west of Africa. Asia is to the west of Australasia, and so forth, I'm sure there are many more levels of pointing out what else location is to the west of another. Indeed, the west is nothing more than really a simple concept...which all the more speaks to the oddity of a group of people calling themselves 'the west'. So yeah, I'd say the characterization of this oddity as "so-called" has just been tacitly reconfirmed by Patriot's simpleton response. All props to Patriot, for being profusely simple-minded.

Cage is gonna have to get his bleachy ass into a tanning salon, stat.

Maybe they should have picked Robert Redford to play Sadat so the arabs (we're not really arabs) would be happy.

Fucking pathetic.
