I have and I was surprised to read that it wasn't good for that purpose. I knew that flax seed oil should not be heated. I don't use it much though because I don't like the flavor. Basically I have been using olive oil for everything except frying.
What do you use YAH?

I use sunflower, safflower, or canola (rapeseed) oil.
I love dark sesame oil but wouldn't use it on its own for stir-frying, rather as a supplement to add a particular taste.
Ghee, soybean oil and coconut oil are also good for frying. Peanut oil, unfortunately, is rarely available in Egypt and Europe.

My Grannie used to make coconut oil from scratch..absolutely delectable the white stuff inside she would put honey or brown sugar and bake made a great candy.hmm..smells soo good
Not my recipe but give it a shot
GRATER CAKE 2 cups grated coconut 1 pound/450g brown sugar ½ cup water ½ teaspoon ginger, Pinch of salt (1) Combine ingredients in a thick-bottomed saucepan. (2) Boil until coconut is cooked and the mixture is sticky enough to hold together. (3) Remove from heat and beat mixture for 2 to 3 minutes. (4) Shape into balls while still hot. (5) Allow to cool. VARIATION:Use 3 pounds of granulated sugar instead of brown sugar and omit the ginger. Prepare as above, then drop onto a greased tray or pour into a square dish and press down with a spoon.
