i am sick and tired
of only negative crap about modern africa too,not just incorrect news about early africa.there needs to be a balance around here.everything is not going wrong.folks are living their lives there and making progress overall, despite some set backs.africa has made more progress in less then 40 years than america has made in 200 years.

this is a response to the trolls.

keep the replies decent please,no negative crap.

IT WILL NOT BE tolerated, or your comments will be removed. i will report you.

anyway check these out.

The Africa You Never See
In the waiting area of a large office complex in Accra, Ghana, it's standing room only as citizens with bundles of cash line up to buy shares of a mutual fund that has yielded an average 60 percent annually for the past seven years. They're entrusting their hard-earned cash to a local company called Databank, which invests in stock markets in Ghana, Nigeria, Botswana and Kenya that consistently rank among the world's top growth markets.

Chances are you haven't read or heard anything about Databank in your daily newspaper or on the evening news, where the little coverage of Africa that's offered focuses almost exclusively on the negative -- the virulent spread of HIV/AIDS, genocide in Darfur and the chaos of Zimbabwe.

Yes, Africa is a land of wars, poverty and corruption. The situation in places like Darfur, Sudan, desperately cries out for more media attention and international action. But Africa is also a land of stock markets, high rises, Internet cafes and a growing middle class. This is the part of Africa that functions. And this Africa also needs media attention, if it's to have any chance of fully joining the global economy.

Consider a few facts: The Ghana Stock Exchange regularly tops the list of the world's highest-performing stock markets. Botswana, with its A+ credit rating, boasts one of the highest per capita government savings rates in the world, topped only by Singapore and a handful of other fiscally prudent nations. Cell phones are making phenomenal profits on the continent. Brand-name companies like Coca-Cola, GM, Caterpillar and Citibank have invested in Africa for years and are quite bullish on the future.

The failure to show this side of Africa creates a one-dimensional caricature of a complex continent. Imagine if 9/11, the Oklahoma City bombing and school shootings were all that the rest of the world knew about America.

The little-known fact is that businesses are thriving throughout Africa. With good governance and sound fiscal policies, countries like Botswana, Ghana, Uganda, Senegal and many more are bustling, their economies growing at surprisingly robust rates.

Damn!!!! That first video on Lagos. I am really ignorant on modern Africa.

We here in the US really have a lot to know. They definitely want to keep us ignorant.

The Military video wasn't that impressive though

UP for all those who think Africans live off rats
The situation in Zimbabwe was largely caused by an U.S British embargo because Mugabe did not serve their interest or pissed them off by turning over farm lands to black farmers..of course Africa has it's problems but concerning Zimbabwe Mugabe stayed in power much too long

I already adressed this, Seems the defamation of Africa is due to the Globalists who see Africa as the "Final Frontier"..

White poverty in South Africa
Tuesday, May 04, 2010

A woman looks out the window of her one-room hut at a squatter camp for poor white South Africans at Coronation Park in Krugersdorp, March 9, 2010. A shift in racial hiring practices and the recent global economic crisis means many white South Africans have fallen on hard times. Researchers now estimate some 450,000 whites, of a total white population of 4.5 million, live below the poverty line and 100,000 are struggling just to survive in places such Coronation Park, a former caravan camp currently home to more than 400 white squatters. African Countries Plant Trees like a Wall To Fight against destertificaion

The planting of a 4,000 mile ‘wall’ of trees and shrubs across Africa has begun in an ambitious effort to halt the southward spread of the Sahara desert and stop vulnerable sub-Saharan habitats from drying up

Called the Great Green Wall, it will be nine miles wide and will traverse 11 countries in the Sahel zone of sub-Saharan Africa, from Senegal in the west and across the continent to Djibouti in the east. Planting started in Senegal in July. The wall is planned to be almost continuous, with breaks only for obstacles such as streams and mountains.

Other than stopping erosion and desertification, which now affects 40% of Africa, the vegetation will help to retain moisture for water sources such as Lake Chad, which has been slowly drying up during the past few decades. Organisers also hope it will create a valuable habitat for wildlife, help research into drought tolerant plant species and provide local people with food and fuel.

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) believes the wall will also be a symbolic achievement for co-operation and stability in Africa.

The project was first proposed in the 1980s by Thomas Sankara, then head of state in Burkina Faso, before being put forward again in 2005 when it was presented to the African Union. Since then, the project has gained international support outside Africa.

The Global Environment Facility, which provides grants to developing countries for projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters and land degradation, has invested $108m (£68.9m) to support the project. Other international development institutions have so far given a total of $3bn (£1.9bn), including $1.8bn (£1.1bn) from the World Bank.
