What You Need to Know About White Doberman Pinschers

Published April 03, 2010 by:Rena Sherwood

More: Doberman Doberman Pinscher Albino Purebred Puppies Purebred Dogs
They're Loving Dogs, but Have Health Issues
White or albino Doberman Pinschers (Dobies) are not considered a separate breed, but they are not allowed to be registered in most country's Doberman registries. The argument is that breeding albinos breeds a sickly dog.

Albinism is a recessive gene that happens within many species, including dogs and Humans. It appears in many purebred dogs - not just the Doberman Pinscher. Purebred puppies are far more prone to albinism because their parents are stuck within a restricted gene pool. In this way, it is far more likely that both sire and dam will carry the recessive gene than if the dogs were mongrels.

Brief History

The first recorded white Doberman Pinscher was a female named Shebah whelped in 1976. She managed to be registered with the AKC despite being an albino but no albinos can be registered today. Thinking they were onto a good thing, the breeders bred the female as soon as she was able and eventually put her to her own son (which guaranteed that both parents carried the recessive gene). She then managed to have white puppies. All white Dobermans are thought to be descended from Shebah.

White Dobermans gained a niche market for their novelty and are still bred today. They also wind up in animal and Doberman rescues because people that buy them often do not realize how much money they will have to shell out for their care and training. Dog rescue organizations urge that anyone who adopts or purchases an albino Doberman never to breed the dog.

General Description

White Doberman Pinschers are identical to normally colored Doberman Pinschers, except for their lack of color. They often have pink skin and pink noses. Their eyes can be pink, blue or yellow. Doberman Rescue of North Carolina says that many albino Dobermans will have more of a cream-color than a true white and may even sport light tan markings.

They're Loving Dogs, but Have Health Issues
The lack of pigment in albino animals means that they cannot tolerate normal amounts of sunlight. They will burn easily and may not be able to see well in sunlight because their eyes are too sensitive. Even normal amounts of light may be too painfully bright for a white Doberman Pinscher. Some white Dobies need to wear doggles" or goggles for dogs.

Character

Doberman Pinschers are generally vilified in popular media as being vicious. Until the media turned its attentions on Rottweilers and then pit bulls, the Doberman Pinscher was thought to be one of the meanest animals on the planet. Doberman Rescue of North Carolina reports that some white Dobermans are hyper-aggressive or difficult to train. But this is the exception rather than the rule.

that's why it's healthier to mix the breeds.

Healthier for the Albino perhaps, but certainly not for the normal dog.
Personally, I prefer to keep it as close to God as possible and breed all normal while allowing the defective strain to simply die out.

The offspring of a normal dog and an albino dog would be a normal dog

Albinism comes out of normal breeding. For example, in humans Tanzania has the highest rate of albinism in the world. That isn't because they albinos breed with one another more than they would somewhere else. It is because the people there carry the gene more there and the albinos come about from two normal people who both carry the albino gene.

Prove it?

LOL, if they both carry mutate genes, then they are not "normal".

Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of Africans
who carry genes for albinism at a higher rate then any other continent yet most of whom not having children with other carriers, thus most of time not producing albino offspring.
A European couple is statistically proven to be less likely to have offspring that are albinos than an African couple.

You are sinking down to the level of 19th century and beyond European racists and Eugenicists trying to twist biology north or south

Still awaiting the proof. I see after all this time and as many postings you are still very much in the "PINK" and still lack even rudimentary comprehension.

If thousands of Africans are carrying mutated P genes than I suppose they are not NORMAL are they. In fact, they are very certainly the predecessors or Great grandfathers of Whites.

Europeans carry the mutated gene almost completely. They are albinos falling within the ranges of OCA1 to OCA3.

They can run fat enough to catch a nigger, running with a stolen VCR. I do know that!

I saw a nigger out run a greyhound trying to evade the cops on t.v.

When a Nigger stealing he somehow gets superhuman strength and speed.

^ LOL, Don't be AFRAID of what your relatives USED to be prior to becoming diseased, slow minded, and scared ALL THE TIME.

Don't allow FEAR to rule you as your ancestors had. Be FREE in MIND and SPIRIT. Even an Albino can be happy. Asians proved this since they achieved spiritualism when Europeans could not.

Go Viagra
