Originally posted by 8man: [QB] In one sense afrocentrism made it easy for racists to disregard the evidence by mirroring Eurocentrism with a counter centrism when really this should’ve been the playing ground of honest scholars white and black who had no ax to grind; although I sympathize with the good intentions of afrocentrics I wish this had been left to pure historians to document and study but blacks without help from the mainstream, confronting racist denials of obvious facts, truths, had no choice but to circle the wagons as it were and so here we are—instead of the evidence being appreciated and studied and critiqued blacks are laughed at and demeaned by whites who should show some humility and respect for a people so unjustly treated just because they were apprantly in some places more primitive or so it seemed when Europeans encountered them—Egypt is not perfect, nor any other ancient civilization…but civilizations do appeal to people’s identities—it's all over popular culture, in one sense afrocentrism is the offspring of white denial of black humanity. The Eurocentric obsessions with Roman and other supposedly “white” civilizations of the past is real, visible everywhere on television as I said, the presumption of white greatness is everywhere. So what blacks need to do is do a really big budget movie about this and you can fund it via the internet--that is of course if nobody at the top steals the money. If the money could be kept for production it could be done. And the movie doesn't have to be made for whites but it should show the humanity of the ancient black Egyptains rather than reflect Eurocentric cliches. It be fantasies, mythological, realistic, a wholes series of films done artistically rather purely as commerical crap--but I'm probably in the minority when it comes to art filmes for blacks. I hate stereotypes and blacks can and do stereotype themselves in films but that's for some other forum. Well, blinders or not, Ancient Egypt at it's very beginning wasn't white as far as I can see. The visual evidence is a good starting point for those willing to lift the blinders off. [/QB]
