For reasons having to due with pure nostalgia, I'd have to say 2Pac's "It Ain't Easy" is probably my favorite rap song of all time.

The GREATEST, is hard to say. Nas' Illmatic is the greatest rap (or more correctly, "Hip Hop") album of all time imo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9Wk3Cv02oQ

^"It ain't hard to Tell" is probably the only track for which he made a video so there it is. I recommend every song on that album though, obviously!

Edit: Here's a nice list that I pretty much agree with (no surprise 2 of the songs are from Illmatic!)

Osirion, I think a better question may be "what is your favorite rap album", since it gives us fewer options and is easier to quantify.

What do you guys think about Freestyle Battle/improvisational ability?

lol, Eminem actually sucks at pure free styling (actual improvisation). Check out this battle of wits between him and MC Juice.

^^See, this reply above stems from ignorance, an ignorance of what is a culture and music dating back decades.

What rap/hop hop stemmed from was a progression of spoken word and influences from earlier black music in the Americas.

The art of poetry combined with a rhythmic beat created a great new style of music speaking about daily life and struggle in the streets of NYC and places where those could relate.

Therein everyone wanted to be like us.

See those who haven't lived it can't identify with it, nowadays hip hop has vanished, its all commercial and what the media wants the world to hear out of us.

I wanted to respond to the idiot, later on reconciled think no.

See, the idiot doesn't no the difference between a musician and an artist. Most of who it showed in the photocollage are artist. There are many producers in Hip Hop who are trained musicians. And actually do play instruments. And even in sampling technics you need to have some affinities and understanding on key-notes, group-notes, high, mid and low clef. Etc...

Even R Kelly was in there. Although he is one of the best producers of this day and time.

Ps. I could not receive your links from the previous post.

What's it about?

First off the Old School Rap is nothing like the new crap out today. Tupac should not be in the same category as the others like E-40 and "Paul Wall".."The Game" etc all of those dudes are fake.

If you listen to Tupac he actually had a story to tell, He did'nt talk about Money and Bitches all the time. Tupac was real, people like you are judging a book by its cover.

The Beatles IMO are boring, but older Metallica is pretty good, but they sold their soul for Money, They Suck now.

I gotta admit "No Leaf Cover" with the San Fransisco Symphony is a damn good song
...

WTF happened to Metallica?? Seriously!!
