For example lets look at the word feeble 'weak': (Latin) flabilis > (Fr.)faible > (Eng) Feeble=weak. If you notice these words have different vowels, but they share a similar phonological pattern: f-b-l. The words from these diverse languages shows regular sound correspondences. Thus we can say they are related. The same thing is true of Mayan Ku/Qu 'god' and Mande Ku 'to be sacre'. To be sacre corresponds to 'god'.
