You want to uphold Africa and that is fine but stop trying to paint a rosy picture that doesn't reflect reality. The only one spouting nonsense from a European perspective is you. January 9th marked the third strike in many farms around the Western Cape, and De-Doorns became the center of the struggle with workers blocking the N2 highway and clashing with police.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/activestills/8371054016/in/set-72157632497312656 No Africa isn't ALL bad but it isn't milk and honey either, at last not for Africans.
South African farmworkers who have waged violent strikes since November are winning their battle for higher minimum wages. The victory may cost thousands their jobs, as farmers mechanize to guard supply contracts with clients such as Asda, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT)'s U.K. chain. Three people have died and packing sheds and vineyards have been torched in strike-related protests in the Western Cape, the nation's biggest fruit-producing region. Workers are demanding the minimum wage be raised to 150 rand ($17) a day from 70 rand. While the government will legislate new pay standards by April 1, some farmers have already agreed to increases. South Africa exports about 12 billion rand worth of fruit a year. It accounts for about 11 percent of the world's table grape and pear shipments, and is the ninth largest wine producer, U.S. Department of Agriculture data shows. The farm strikes coincided with the peak harvesting season, placing the nation's reputation as a reliable supplier at stake and raising the risk of market share being lost to competitors such as Chile, according to Pretoria-based Agri SA, the main farmers' organization. "We have had inquiries from our clients all over the world about the unrest," Pieter du Toit, managing director of Du Toit Group (Pty) Ltd., one of South Africa’s largest farming companies, whose clients include Asda and Edeka Zentrale AG & Co., Germany's biggest food retailer, said by phone from Ceres on Jan. 15. "I think they are spreading their risk to ensure supply. We will make mechanization a higher priority."
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-01-17/s-africa-farm-strikes-may-risk-wal-mart-edeka-contracts.html Now Apartheid and the Land Acts before that were all put in place to kick the Africans off the land so Europeans could create plantations and use the natives as slaves. This is nothing more than the same system the British and Europeans created in the Americas, South Asia and elsewhere that is the basis of the modern "global economy". It is inherently based on slavery, genocide and oppression. So what part of this don't you get? These people in South Africa are racists and no different than whites in the Americas or anywhere else. Blacks don't own or control anything. But your dumb behind claims that Africa as the "breadbasket" of the world is somehow good for Africans.... And at this point most of the politicians in South Africa are simply FLUNKIES for the white corporations who serve on their boards while the corporations CONTINUE to enslave Africans and treat them like dirt in their own country. NOT ONE of these companies had to pay a DIME of reparations for the TRILLIONS of dollars in wealth stolen from South Africa from before or during Apartheid. And these sambo flunkies have NO INTENTION on forcing them to do so or to give back any land or recognize African sovereignty. They are only there to be SPOKESPEOPLE for these white corporations so that these corporations can appear legit while they continue to exploit and steal from Africans. For example:
A revered activist who was politically and romantically involved with the late Steve Biko has launched a party to challenge the governing African National Congress (ANC) and "rekindle the South Africa of our dreams". Mamphela Ramphele said that dream had faded for people who endured poverty and inequality, the threat of a return to traditional rule in rural areas and a broken education system that had gone backwards since the end of racial apartheid. "Our society's greatness is being fundamentally undermined by a massive failure of governance," she said at a launch event on Monday at the historic women's jail at Constitutional Hill. "Our country has lost the moral authority and international respect it enjoyed when it became a democracy." The 65-year-old said her new organisation would be called Agang – "Let us build", in the Sesotho language – and would contest national elections next year. Ramphele, who spent seven years under house arrest during white minority rule, was among the founders of Biko's black consciousness movement. The pair fell in love and had a daughter, who died aged two months, and a son, born after Biko was killed by apartheid police in 1977. What Biko would think about today's South Africa if he had lived, and how he would respond, is a perennial subject of debate. "He would have been disappointed, as I am, that the country of our dreams is yet to become a reality in the lives of ordinary people," Ramphele told the Guardian. "He would have been as committed as I am to put up his hand to make sure that we mobilise South Africans to build this country of our dreams and to make ours a modern, thriving 21st-century democracy." Ramphele, who is not married, dismissed as "preposterous" the notion that she was Biko's political torchbearer. But she added: "There are those of our generation who remember not only with our minds but with our hearts, and I believe Steve Biko's imprint on my generation of activists is indelible. It is a rich heritage from which we are drawing. The fact that I'm able to engage with South Africans across the party political, colour and cultural divide is a tribute to the consciousness-raising that we all worked on. "I don't have any inferiority complex against anybody, nor do I have any grudge against anybody. So I feel I am in a position to encourage other South Africans to put the country first. Let us self-identify as South Africans, not this shameful status right now where less than 10% are able to say 'I am a South African'. We can't talk about black consciousness. We must talk about a South African consciousness."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/feb/18/mamphela-ramphele-challenge-anc Notice how this woman is spouting this "we are the world" we are rainbow nation bull crap and we all need to live together bull crap. I mean who on earth is she talking to? She is saying all these things as if all groups were equally guilty of trying to make South Africa exclusive to one population. But last I checked, ONLY ONE group of people was promoting racism, exploitation and EXCLUSION over all others. So now white folks are all the same with the Indians, Asians and blacks in South Africa as a "rainbow" nation. And the fact that blacks are on the ABSOLUTE BOTTOM is simply just natural huh? Don't kick the white folks out, don't make them pay back anything, they didn't do anything wrong, look you can get a nice job too from these good white folks.... That is exactly why they put her there. This is exactly the "party line" and agenda of all these white corporates who run south Africa. In fact, President Obama represents the SAME ANGLO corporate system. Make no mistake, the POTUS went it to South Africa to make it clear that corporate America and corporate South Africa are brothers and all one and unified..... AGAINST the Africans. Here is Miss Ramphele's bio if you don't believe what I am saying:
Continuing her academic studies, Ramphele received a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Cape Town, a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Administration from the University of South Africa as well as diplomas in Tropical Health & Hygiene and Public Health from the University of the Witwatersrand. Ramphele has also authored and edited a number of books. Ramphele joined the University of Cape Town as a research fellow in 1986 and was appointed as one of its Deputy Vice-Chancellors in 1991. She was appointed to the post of Vice-Chancellor of the university in September 1996, thereby becoming the first black woman to hold such a position at a South African university. Part of her executive job roles was to take charge of the University’s Equal Opportunity Policy Portfolio, with the aim of changing the culture of the institution. In 1994, Ramphele was a visiting scholar at the Kennedy School of Government in the United States of America (USA). In 2000, Ramphele became one of the four Managing Directors of the World Bank. She was tasked with overseeing the strategic positioning and operations of the World Bank Institute as well as the Vice-Presidency of External Affairs. She is the first South African to hold this position. Ramphele has served as a trustee of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, as the director of the Institute for a Democratic Alternative for South Africa (IDASA) and as a board member of the Anglo-American Corporation and Transnet. Ramphele also serves as a trustee for The Link SA fund, a charitable organization that raises money to subsidise the tertiary education of South Africa's brightest underprivileged students. She also sits on the Board of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, an organisation which supports good governance and great leadership in Africa. She was voted 55th in the Top 100 Great South Africans in 2004, a survey portrayed as mired in controversy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamphela_Ramphele
GOLD Fields distanced itself from comments by former chairperson, Mamphela Ramphele, who said that the R54bn gold company agreed to government-nominated empowerment partners for its South Deep mine. However, the group confirmed it was investigating its black economic empowerment (BEE) transactions. “Gold Fields values and respects the services to the company of its former chair, Dr Mamphela Ramphele,” the company said in a statement today. “During her tenure, Dr Ramphele strongly supported the board’s decision to commission an independent investigation. Statements attributed in press reports yesterday (March 12) to Dr Ramphele represent her own personal views,” it said. Gold Fields had retained the services of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison (Paul Weiss), a law firm, to undertake the investigation which is thought to extend to the 9% share in Gold Fields’ South Deep mine held by Invictus Gold, an empowerment grouping with some 73 shareholders.
http://www.miningmx.com/page/news/gold_and_silver/1546195-Gold-Fields-distances-itself-from-Ramphele-comments#.Udlt8awUhBk Another corporate sponsored sellout clown being promoted as the "savior" of South Africa who is only really a savior of the white corporations who need black faces in high places to make black folks feel good while they CONTINUE to get oppressed.
In one of the most optimistic developments in local politics in recent years, Black Consciousness Movement (BCM) forerunner Mamphela Ramphele looks set to enter South African politics. The weekend press reported that Ramphele said she was "entering politics to save her country". A former anti-Apartheid activist, who was in a relationship with Steve Biko (SA’s most influential black consciousness leader) until he was murdered by security police, Ramphele was Biko’s intellectual companion and sounding-board, helping him frame many of his political ideas. One of the most respected women in her own country, and across the globe, Ramphele is a medical doctor who has spent much of her life championing civic activism, human rights, education, self-actualisation and a value-centric approach to politicking. A former managing director of human development at the World Bank and one time Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cape Town, today Ramphele is more recognised as an outspoken critic of the Zuma regime, an agitator for systemic change in SA through civic organisations she’s created, and for her numerous business interests. The chair of the board at Gold Fields, Ramphele is also holds directorships at Anglo American, Medi-Clinic, and Remgro. She also chairs education finance specialists, EduLoan, and Circle Capital Ventures, the empowerment investment company founded with her son, Hlumelo Biko. City Press claimed that an announcement from Ramphele was imminent, and that she’d travelled to the US, where she told audiences she was raising funds for a political party. The weekly newspaper stated that she’d been lobbying support from ambassadors abroad. Former DA leader and ambassador to Argentina, Tony Leon, told City Press that he’d had independent confirmation of this news from at least two people who’d attended the meetings. “One of these meetings was in Boston, where she spoke at the residence of South African-born (retired) Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, Margaret Marshall,” Leon told the weekly. “A friend of mine from South Africa was there. She said Ramphele was starting a political party and she was there to raise money,” said Leon.
http://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2013-01-28-analysis-mamphela-ramphele-to-the-rescue And it is no coincidence that she was in the U.S. seeking funds. The corporate elites and their political flunkies want to model themselves after America, right down to the slavery, jim crow apartheid and white rule and black corporate flunky spokesmen. ALL of these political parties, whether the ANC or the new Agang party are in bed with the WHITES and this is why they have DONE NOTHING for black people in South Africa. NOT ONE THING. And this chick was not really that involved with Biko but they are using this as cover for the ignorant clowns that don't know her real history.
As she became more involved in the BCM, she also fell in love with Steve Biko. However, she married an old boyfriend on a holiday break from school. Her marriage was a mistake and ended barely a year later. It was too late for her and Biko though. In light of her own marriage, he, in turn, married another. Still their affair continued and in May of 1974, she bore his child, a girl named Lerato, which means "love." Tragically the baby died at two months.
