I'll be visiting my relatives soon - they live near Tanta. My husband and I have saved some extra money to buy clothes in Tanta. However, I am a size 22/24 (ug!). Can I get clothes of this size easily in Tanta ???

Who knows? If you don't have clothes to bring with you, try to bring fabric and some clothes you like that a tailor can copy. That might be your best bet.

But one wonders....why do you want to buy your own clothes in Tanta if you don't live there? That doesn't make sense.

To answer your questions - My relatives live in a village with very few shops - the nearest town to them being Tanta - which is where my husband wants us to shop. Having spent a lot to come to Egypt, we were hoping to buy some clothes there, as we have not bought any clothes for a considerable time in order to visit Egypt; and they cost a fraction of what they cost here in England.

If you are European, I wouldn't expect to find anything you much want to wear in Tanta. If you are broke because of the savings program to come to Egypt, I'd suggest you learn to sew at home. Buying fabric and learning to sew your own clothes will be the best way to save money on clothes. OR...as I suggested before, bring fabric and have some things made in Tanta. Surely your mother-in-law knows a man or woman that sews.

The probablem is that Tanta isn't exactly the fashion center of the Middle East and what is there, in your size, will probably be in polyester (the fabric of the middle east) and not something you'd wear very much.

If you can, come to Cairo. Big sizes in decent clothes are difficult to find here as well, but at least you'd find more fabrics to choose from.

Good luck.
