Hi
The specifics...Im off travelling (backpacking) round Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Siwa Oasis for a month then a chilled out month in Dahab, doing some diving etc...

Now all i really want to know is what is suitable clothing for walking around the towns, monuments in Mid July/august? Bear in mind that I am a guy, travelling alone and living out of my suitcase.

At the moment i have some loose linen trousers and a long sleeve linen shirt. Any other sugegstions would be welcome.

Have no idea what colours are best (for sun and heat, and practicality purposes). LIght colours or darker colours? If i wear a pair of brown linen trousers during the day, will i get hot or would i be better to wear ligher colours? I know its a daft question, but just want to make sure.

I was thinking about gettin on eof these specialised travel shirts that wick dampness away, iron free, have some sun factor protection? Is that too anal, or are they a good idea? They seem it to me I have to say.

Is it ok to wear short sleeve shirts assuming you wear sun cream, or is it better in every sense to wear long sleeves whilst walking around the city and monuments. Also i will be travelling on buses etc quite alot so, what are practicle clothes in general?
For eatign in restaurants in the evening, again, what is reasonable outfit?

My time in Dahab I am ok with, been their several times b4, so shorts and bear flesh hear i goooo!

I know i have asked a lot of questions here, but i am keen to not offend the locals with inappropriate clothing, but also do not want to be wearing so much that i feel that im dressed for winter (if you see what i mean).

Thankyou in advance fo ryour help

Also, anyone out in Dahab in August?

Thanks,

Long sleeved loose light shirts are easiest and lighter coloured trousers during the day. T shirts are fine too as long as they are vest tops or sleeveless.

Take one 'best' outfit incase you want to eat/go anywhere posh.

There are laundries everywhere that you can get your clothes washed AND pressed within 24 hours so dont over pack! 3 pairs of socks and indies (1 on, 1 in the wash, 1 clean in case of accidents..lol)

I spent 2 weeks travelling around with just 5 mix and match outfits. it got boring but it was easier to carry the bag...lol

And dont forget a hat and sunglasses!

Hi
Thanks ever so much for your reply and suggestions. Certainly very useful info...

Just wanted to confirm one detail tho, you mentioned about vests and sleeveless, did you actually mean THEY ARE ok to wear about town, or did you mean otherwise? Just that i htought it was, shall we say, 'insenstive' to show too much flesh. I mean, i love wearing as litle as possible ususally, so it's alwight with me.

Thanks again for your help.

Oooops, i meant AREN'T! (sloppy typing )

Take them but wear them under an open shirt. it saves a fortune on sun lotion if you wear long sleeves..lol
