People, seriously, Egypt is just not anymore how it used to be. Well lets say things changed over the years.

While being on vacation in Hurghada couple of weeks ago I ran into quite many pharmacies for different medication and I stumbled each time over big Viagra advertisings.

Why is that stuff so openly presented? And who is purchasing Viagra? Only the tourists?

I feel already strange when couple of dozens condome boxes smile at me upon just entering the pharmacy, seriously they stock more sorts of it then cough medicine. Why is that stuff so in eyesight especially in a Muslimic country?

I am puzzled.....

should aids protection not be offered in islamic countries? and do you think that men in egypt don't need a drop of viagra from time to time to prop things up a bit?
or is it that you find it un-islamic to show sex-related pharmaceuticals in public?
see it this way:
1- egyptians do not usually practice safe sex, they have not been educated to do it so selling condoms openly is probably a very good and intelligent way to break some taboo and can only help reduce aids and other vd .
2- Viagra is a big seller here - it helps pay most of the pharmacies overheads, so why not ?

what is really funny and strange are the "lingerie " shops in most of the souks and downtown Cairo.
You will find lingerie hanging in public.lingerie that would have a sex shop in StDenis look like a monastery!
I once bought ladies underwear as a fun-gift to a friend, it was pink, wiht rabbit fur all around and when you pushed a heart in the middle of it , it sang "happy birthday"
Now what about that?
Go and check out the lingerie store next to the Cafe Riche down town Cairo..u n b e l i e v a b l e.

Don't you think its a poor sign to handle that stuff that openly and it just gives a bad impression of whats really going on in a city like Hurghada?

And after the first high and praising of Viagra in Western countries many people are now more aware of the possible and dangerous side effects Viagra can create:

See the following link:
http://www.detlist.com/html/viagra-side-effects.php

In a country like Egypt anyone can purchase it without having a doctor prescription.

And I find it definitely un-islamic to show sex aids off that openly. Give condoms, pills out for the people in the villages for birth control but don't make it easy on these Egyptian guys who pop one girl after another in these resorts. These are the ones who talking about themselves with having high morals and values and looking down on foreign women as cheap but good enough to have a great time.

Hi Tigerlily, hope you are keeping well.

Re the Viagra, as you saw, my husband has grey hair so every time we enter a Pharmacy he is offered Viagra. I simply smile and say: There may snow on the roof but there is still plenty of fire in the boiler!

yes i do think it is a good idea... people have right to be educated in the importnce of protection.. as someone said... in the shops etc sexy underwer is on show all over cairo and sold by men too.. there is nothing wrong or unislamic.. to inform people of how important condoms are.. as for viagra.. well if a guy feels he needs it.. then it makes him easier to ask for it if it is out there.. as for the pimps on the beachs and tourist places.. they will always be there.. but at least make sure that they can get protection..the onus is on the women who come on vacation... if they are ready and willing the guys will always be there.. it is what it is.... I am not sure about the dishing out of condoms in the villages... they would say that ws unislamic... some are of the beliefe that one should not ry to stop large families and then try saying to them it is for the protection of aids.. you are then going to get into another argument of infidelity

Okay, forgot one more thing to add: I remember couple of lingerie stores in Cairo downtown back then and for Islamic standards I also think it was offending.

Not the stores itself but to display the items freely in the windows. Keep the stuff inside the stores. A willing customer will always come inside, look around and even purchase.

Its just kind of double standard. Yet you shouldn't kiss in public or show any affection to the other gender, act modest, women should dress more than appropriate and still get hassled and yet provocating underwear is displayed in the eyesight of everyone.

Kind of double standard, don't you think????

Just great, we had the most fantastic day out at Mahmaya yesterday. Snorkelled til my hearts content. Feeling it today mind you, the old legs are not what they used to be!

How are you? Hope you have all settled down at home again. Are you thinking of coming back next year with your new one? I hope so. Would love to meet you again.

Keep in touch and keep me up to date!

you guys what are the islamic standards ou yare you talking about? islam promotes and encourages a healthy sex life. infact all sexual positions are allowed with the exception of premartial sex, anal sex, and sex during the period. and yes primak i agree with you on the lingerie in egypt, the stuff is much much sexier than what they sell in the west its amazing!
further, i do not see any problem with the selling of viagra. unfortunatly there are some diseases like diabetes that might make it difficult to have intercourse and thus a medication like viagra is needed.
though what i found horrific are the viagra ads on an araibic channel, can't remember which. in one they had a person trying to drive a nail into a wall with a hammer but everytime he does the nail breaks, and then they write viagra and all of a sudden it goes in. and in another someone is trying to put a straw into a plastic pepsi cup but everytime he tries to drive it in the straw breaks, until ofcourse they write viagra and the straw goes in! uff couldn't they find a more tastefull way to advertise the product???

tigerlily,i agree with u...i see double standart with this and many other things..

If the sex include only for marriage..but not all people are married..so should we think about those, who are not yet married, and try to keep their mind off from the sex..

Why do you wounder at all.

Here we have a lot of young men who are trying to make a living by having sex with ugly middle age to old women (tourists). Judging by this forum and the masses of women here trying to catch a second youth.

Are you surprised those young men are in need of some help other than closing their eyes and thinking of poor old Egypt
