Pollina,

The high season is regarded as November to February, as the weather is very kind then. Peak season for travel is regarded as mid October to May.

So, do you think that April will be just right??? Not too hot yet so that going down to Luxor will be pleasant?

I think April sounds great. See what peak season is for hotels and stuff. You will find out real quick what the best time is.

I agree that february is a good time to visit Egypt. There can be a few sandstorms and windier conditions in march/beginning of april. Easter also drives up the prices.

I've been end of Feb and the beginning March . . . no problem except the sandstorms last year in March. I like the temp . . . warmer than our winter but not as warm as it will be in the summer. Of course, the first time I went to the Pyramids in February 2004, it got to 90 degrees . . . just my luck! [Wink]

I wonder why flights in the summer are more expensive though if it's not peak season.

I would like to know also. I am going to my friend's wedding in June and I hate paying $2100.00 for a ticket.

Doodlebug, it depends which airline you choose and connection points. Summer flights with some airlines might connect more popular summer routes first. Egypt Air is worth checking out. Try getting a quote direct from their sales office, as well as flight specialists.

Because tourist come in the winter, tourist can chose their destination and their time frame.

many Egyptians in the west go in the summer due to weddings. In that case because the wedding date is dictated by the marrying couple, the Egyptian cannot really negiotiate in regards to time frame.

Alot of the neighbors in Agamy were there for weddings, in addition to the sky-high airfares, they also paid sky-high rents for the flats in Agamy. Many flat owners in Agamy rent out for defined and specific time frames in the summer, actually making money on the ocean front flats.

I was going to say something like that, but didn't know if it was right or not. My husband's friends go during the summer as well, when their kids are out of school.

When my ex calls for price quotes through alot of the Arab Travel services in the USA he gets $2300 quotes.

When my mother bought the tickets for this summer she got a $1300 price quote and with insurance and all the extras it was no more than $1400.

But again Egyptians will yeild their loyalty to a Arab Travel agency and pay the $1000 mark up without shopping around.

The "us" and "them" mentality costs in so many ways. For the first trip I printed out 4 different flights with their prices and 3 different non-Arab travel agency quotes. I handed this to my husband and he handed it to the Arab Travel agency and was bitched out of the office. I am talking chair throwing angry.

My then husband started to heed my asked for advice at that point. [Roll Eyes]

Unsure, will you be staying with family or need hotel accommodation? The reason I ask is that compamies like MISR Travel (which I have absolutely no connection with) bundle accommodaton with flights at prices lower than purchasing a ticket directly, sometimes. This is an option worth checking out, even if you discard entirely the 'tourist', unnecessary bit of the package. Obviously, this depends on your timescale and general availability but it might be worth a shot.

I thought the higher flight costs from the U.S. during the summer have to do with high season in Europe . . . we almost always have to connect thru somewhere in Europe depending on where you fly from. Of course, if you fly EgyptAir and don't live in NYC, then you have to pay to get to NYC.

I will be in Egypt for a month. I am looking at renting a flat in Maadi. I will check out MISR travel. Thanks.
