Med Red Rally 2006 - 94 yachts, 900 sailors
And now Med Red Rally 2007!

Med Red Rally 2007 starts in Bodrum Turkey with the Med Fun, a week of sailing, tours and fun along the coast of Turkey, Bodrum-Marmaris-Gocik-Fethiye-Kekova-Finike. Hot air ballooning, rafting, jeep trips are part of the activities offered along the route.

The Med Red Rally will depart from Finike sailing to Cyprus and continue to Israel with option of tours to Jerusalem and the Dead Sea.
After a festive send-off from Tel Aviv the rally will sail to Port Said, options of day tours to Cairo and Alexandria will be available from there. The rally will continue in a once in a life convoy through the Suez Canal. South of Suez the yachts will anchor for a few days at Tawila Island in the Red Sea - an ideal spot for snorkeling and diving in rarely visited coral reefs. The rally will continue to Abu Tig Marina in El Gouna, Egypt's foremost Red Sea resort. An overnight shore trip will set out from Abu Tig to Luxor to visit the famous temples, Valley of the Kings and the tomb of Tutankhamon. Crews will be able to try their hand at sailing a felucca - Nile river boats whose design has remained unchanged since the time of the pharaohs.
From El Gouna the Rally will sail to Sharm-el-Sheik, and the Siani peninsula coast and back through the Suez Canal, returning to Herzeliya for the final party and prize giving.

Comments from participants in the 2006 Med Red Rally:

Dan Senal M/Y Dakare "There was a big party for the Med Red Rally participants at the Tel Aviv marina. Dan was asked to give an impromptu speech. It went well. Dan focused on 2 things that were very nice additions to the rally. The first was that all foreign yachts to the rally were invited to an Israeli home to celebrate Pesach. The Second was the beautifully done Rally Logbook that was given to participants. Both foretold of a strong desire on the part of the rally organizers to make this rally the best ever for all participants."

Rick & Tsipi Thomson M/Y Odelya "The boats in the rally are broken down into groups by their average speed. We are leading our group and our group leader is Judah. The rally is extremely well organized and professional. The rally organizers: Eitan and Easy are great and they have been ably assisted by Nirit, Mandy, and others. Ruti from Yambateva Travel organized all the tours and dive trips. We wouldn't have had so much fun or seen so much without their hard work. We really did appreciate all their hard work. We have met hundreds of really nice people (fellow cruisers) and will do our best to maintain contact with them "

This sounds very exciting to me, I'd love to go on this trip! Anyone interested? More importantly - do you own a yacht? Ay ay captain! [Big Grin]
