Are themed children's parties common in Egypt? I wouldn't think with all the poverty and lack of jobs that spending money on extravagant b-day parties would be common place. Sheesh where my husband comes from some families can't even afford to have meat.

Brilliant Idea, why dont you approach places like the private clubs, Giza/Dokki, Rehab etc.. and get them to advertise for you and use there premises, not many people book halls and most birthdays are'nt really celebrated, but you could do childrens school parties or something like that.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that arranged childrens' parties are a huge waste of money? Especially in Egypt. Have a cake at home and be done with it I say. Of course I'm practical.

I do think its a waste of money, but she could do well by working in some of teh private member clubs and they could orgnaise childrens party for club member kids, in egypt there not going to make a lot of money from it, only if they approach rich/schools or clubs. In the uk its big business, my kids are happy with a cake and a family around. But I do know peple who spend £100's on a kids birthday, and do teh kids care, not really.

But would you do it in Egypt? Would your husband be ok with spending most of his salary for the month on a themed party?

im with you M.. i never had any and my kids have one some years, not others... and even then they are just 'run' by us. i did get my friend to dress up as a clown one year, but we found it funnier than them!!

when we have a party there are just as many adults around... why pay for entertainment?

My mother hired a clown for my son's first b-day party....ok #1 a first b-day party is a HUGE waste cuz the kid just spends the whole day screaming #2 small children tend to be terrified of clowns. My ex and I gave our sons a limit to b-day parties. Age 8 was the limit...no parties after that. We do get them a cake and maybe take them out to dinner or have a few friends over for dinner but no party. Even when it was a party it was simple. This year for my son's 10th birthday we took him to a Detroit Tiger's baseball game. He had a blast! He said it was the best birthday he's ever had.
