I don't know if this applies.....

But I saw a french porn clip on my uncle's satellite TV.

Very skinny guys with pig masks screwing equally skinny chicks in the french forest. A basket of truffles was toss aside in the background.

Possibly he was hungry for truffles and you excited him in the wrong way? [Confused]

don't forget doodlebut, for some egyptians (read islamists) it is offensive for a woman to talk or laugh loud. In other words, if a young woman is going to be married you can sometimes hear the family talk about her "virtue" saying, "You know she is so nice and so good and never talking loud with her friends and laughing with a loud voice."
To that, I must say....
HAHAHAHAH SNORT! HAHAHAHAHA

Really? Maybe that is what was meant.

Now I have to wonder what other little oddities I might do by mistake that would be misconstrued as being offensive....

And I wonder if there is something that Egyptians do normally that I would find offensive as well.

Is the middle finger offensive in Egypt? (i'm serious...my daughter told me that in different countries they have different ways of doing the whole middle finger thing)

hehehehehe, it's the same although you can do it in a point gesture. or holding your hand out and giving the finger and move it in a beckoning motion.

It's not nice in Western cultures either but it certainly doesn't deem the female to be un-lady like. I never met anyone who did it except on purpose.....

Queenbee, I always wondered why women here are so afraid to raise their voices....it's so backwards, in the West the woman is considered weak if she can't be strong enough to speak up for herself and make her voice known in a conversation. Although there is a limit to that, women who laugh obnoxiously loudly are considered well...obnoxious. [Big Grin]

I have recognized that many egyptian women are very quick to raise their voices especially at home with family and their voice levels in regards to how they speak to family members especially parents is really surprising

Sorry but I think if you farted when you laughed then that would be more embarrasing. Even if it was just a sneeky fluffy one that slipped out.

What if it was "water pressure" Hence piss myself laughing. Or the snort and water loss at the same time. Now that would be bad news. How would you explain that one away.

Your husband never warned you about laughing loudly in public? Oh and another one..chomping on your gum in public. Both are regarded offensive apparently. Oh and crossing your legs in public. Definitely kissing in public is a no no although we've snuck around and done it. Hmmm what else? Oh I don't know if this is all Egyptians or just mine...he won't call my name or his sisters names in public. If he wants our attention he calls his own name. The first time he did it was at the beach. I was sitting near the water and I hear him saying..Mohamed, Mohamed. I'm like what the hell? I turn around..he was trying to get my attention to give me a Pepsi. He says it's wrong to call out a woman's name in public. I thought that was kinda weird.

God if I ever snorted when I laughed I'd be mortified! Whether in Egypt or the states. Hahaha.

Not sure about this middle finger thing. When I was in Cairo a few weeks ago, this boy, looked about 15 came up to me and tried making conversation. He didn't speak any English and I couldn't understand his arabic. Then he said something about a goze (husband), then he made a circle with the thumb and forefinger of one hand and put it over the middle finger of the other hand and moved it up and down. In England that is a reference to shagging so being offended, I stuck my nose in the air and stalked off. I told my BF and he said he thought the boy was probably asking me if I was married and trying to indicate a wedding ring (though it was not the wedding ring finger he was circling) rather than being intentionally offensive.

*snort* + AHA!= bullshit. one may hear this remark in the midst of a funny conversation between men in egypt. it means like, "get out of here, no way!" or "bullshit, man! you dont know what you are talking about!" also it is the sound they use to 'mimick the womans noises while she is getting laid.' really this is it.
note: women dont make this sound.

MM...Your husband sounds like the Egyptian guys who come on black and white movies! They no more exist! A long time ago, they somehow vanished!

Even my pa doesnt stick to such old Egyptian values.
My mom hates it when ppl call her hajja-which is a decent trick to avoid calling old women their names-. My parents once went to a supermarket. The guy asks her : "what do u want ya hajja??"" my pa screams in the background, ""her name is leyla!!! Call her Leyla!!! she hates it when ppl call her hajja!!"
