Tareq, if you want responses maybe you need to get a little bit more specific.

"Near the Nile" can be anywhere, are you talking about Shubra, downtown, Maadi … ?

Are you a beginner or an experienced athlete? How fast are you going to run? You write "30 KM for an hour", but that must be a mistake since no human being can run 30 km in an hour.

You might want to try the Cairo Hash House Harriers for regular runs:

I was going to suggest The Hash too Dalia, I have ran with them in Wadi Degla. I like the idea of running in private and away from the traffic.

Good luck with your run though [Smile]

30km in hour lol...

On April 18, 2011, Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya ran the fastest marathon ever in a time of 2 hours 3 minutes 2 seconds at the 2011 Boston Marathon,

You believe you can be faster with motivation and the right people? Alright – good luck! [Big Grin]

Yes, it's great out there and there are some serious runners in the group too. I might try it again since I really hate running on a treadmill, but the whole drinking and social thing is a big turnoff for me. [Frown]

Hey dalia
We still did not decide the area but we think of the zamalek nile. we will walk around the island of zamaelk. we will run slowly for 1 hour. forget the 30 Km/hour. we can lessen it. we can make it 10 or 15 km. It all depends on stuff. it is only one hour
I am not an athlete. I will run slowly as i need to come back home safely with no injuries. lol

it will not be a marathon. it will only be a kind of group sport and different style day.

I think Dalia was just letting you know that it is physically impossible to run 30km/h.

Dalia, I don't mind the socialising at the Hash as the nationalities are so very varied and I have met some awesome people, it is a great for networking.

But the side I dislike is 'the circle' which I find to be very very personal, rude and frankly childish. Drinking is obviously choice as there are many Muslims taking part but there are too many drinking 'games' which naturally exclude a lot of people. It is very good to attend if you just leave when it finishes.

I hear a new African lady has taken of the running of it, i hope she reduces the crassness of it all to make it more appealing.

nothing wrong with enjoying a beer for non muslims

but it is wrong for muslims and yes some non practising muslims drink it.

any way, I do not find alcohol to be a good thing to enjoy even if it was allowed for me as a muslim..

there are lots of stuff to enjoy in life more than alcohol.

There are also many Muslims in Heliopolis keeping bars alive I can assure you. But hey, that is their business [Big Grin]

I like cafes more than bars.

A cafe is just a bar without beer! In fact, there are cafes here that sell beer...

I find boring bars boring, but I think fun bars are fab [Big Grin]

I LOVE beer gardens! A nice cold beer in the garden in the sun with great friends catching up and chatting away till the sun sets [Big Grin] Ma'adi is the best place for beer gardens.

That's what I was referring to. I found that part awful, embarassing and childish. And since I don't have a car and depend on others for transportation I couldn't just leave.

To be fair, it's years ago that I went, and maybe I should just give it a second chance. There are many serious runners, lots of nice people, and it will probably be possible to have a nice time without the silly part.

Regarding alcohol – there is no verse in the Qur'an containing a clear prohibition, there are some stern warnings that the negative aspects can outweigh the positive ones though, which I happen to agree with. So I believe it should be a matter of personal choice and we should be careful about judging someone as a "practicing" or "non practicing" Muslim based on their attitude towards drinking.

Yeah, I had to rely on others too which is the reason I stopped. Plus it is very Ma'adi orientated...

Re: alcohol, I don't care what anybody does, who am I to judge [Big Grin] I am just glad Egypt isn't as strict as many other MENA countries...

So this is your fatwa, Dalia,

You say drinking alcohol is ok in Islam.
what qualification do you have in hand to state this fatwa?

I am not sure what do you study? and what is your job? but to speak like this about religion, you must have studied something.

Yes, that's true.

Do you happen to know at what time they usually meet? The website says the next run (today) will start at 3 p.m. But I seem to recall that the regular Friday runs start earlier in the morning, particularly in summer.

Yeah it starts at 3pm, they don't walk in the midday sun. They meet at 2pm at the ACE.

They used to push it to 4pm but the clock change being gotten rid of would have had a an effect there.
