My Red cow refers to.... The Red Heifer of Israel, The Clan of Red Cattle of the Peul and the Red Cattle of Egypt and the Sahara and African American redbone females. :-)

http://arksearch.com/naredhef.htm

Red Heifer: The Bible
The red heifer provided a means for the congregation of Israel to purify themselves for presentation to God. It is this strong connection which drives the Ultra Orthodox Jews of today to prepare and purify themselves for the coming priesthood and temple services.
The red heifer must meet certain physical criteria and must be sacrificed in a certain way. Once sacrificed, the ashes are to be mixed with "clean" water and it is this mixture which is sprinkled over the "unclean". Numbers 19 is the basis for understanding and the direction from God for the physical purification. The following bible reference is taken from the King James Version.

Numbers 19
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

2 This [is] the ordinance of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer without spot, wherein [is] no blemish, [and] upon which never came yoke:

3 And ye shall give her unto Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her forth without the camp, and [one] shall slay her before his face:

4 And Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the congregation seven times:

5 And [one] shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn:

6 And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast [it] into the midst of the burning of the heifer.

7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even.

8 And he that burneth her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even.

9 And a man [that is] clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay [them] up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it [is] a purification for sin.

10 And he that gathereth the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever.

11 He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days.

12 He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean.

13 Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness [is] yet upon him.

14 This [is] the law, when a man dieth in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that [is] in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.

15 And every open vessel, which hath no covering bound upon it, [is] unclean..

16 And whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.

17 And for an unclean [person] they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel:

18 And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip [it] in the water, and sprinkle [it] upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave:

19 And the clean [person] shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.

20 But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation hath not been sprinkled upon him; he [is] unclean.

21 And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkleth the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the water of separation shall be unclean until even.

22 And whatsoever the unclean [person] toucheth shall be unclean; and the soul that toucheth [it] shall be unclean until even.

The Fulani tribe is broken up into four main clans. Each one has a certain atrributes defining it. The BA clan is the clan of the Red Cow.

The Fulani are the experts on cattle. They are the original cowboys of the Sahara and the USA. If any group can produce a red cow (heifer), they can........

From Israel,

OBSERVATION ON THE AGE AT FIRST CALVING IN THE SAVANNAH BREEDS OF CATTLE IN NORTHERN NIGERIA

A. K. Sackey, B. D. Sanni, S. U, Abdullahi and T.S. Fadason

Department of Surgery and Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.

Introduction Materials and Methods Results Discussion

Summary

A total of 35 herds of cattle from 2 institutional farms, and 6 privately-owned farms which were semi-intensively managed, and 17 nomadic Fulani herds were studied between January 1984 and December 1993 to evaluate the age of first calving (AFC) in the three major indigenous breeds of the Savannah zone of Northern Nigeria: the white-Fulani (Bunaji), Sokoto-Gudali (Bokoloji) and red Fulani (Rahaji). The AFC of heifers at first calving ranged from 30 to 42 months (mean, 37 ± 0.57 months) with no breed differences. The AFC of heifers from semi-intensively managed herds (institutional and privately-owned farms) was 30 to 40 months (mean, 36 ± 1.05 months) and that from nomadic herds was 33 to 42 months (mean, 37 ± 1.31 months). The much lower AFC range observed in this study compared to the higher values (33 - 60 months) reported by previous investigators is due to the increased awareness of livestock owners for the need to improve feed supplemention for livestock in particular during the dry season. The nomadic herdsmen ensure a ready supply of cereal bran, cotton seed (meal or cake) crop residues such as groundnut and bean hulls, corn stalks in addition to salt (mineral) licks during the harsh dry season. Institutional and private herds are provided with legumes and grass silages and hay in addition to cereal bran, cotton seed meal and salt licks during the dry season. Nomadic herdowners now realise the importance of supplementary feeding and maintenance of good herd health in the prevention of malnutrition and diseases. This results in a consistent improvement in growth and productivity as evidenced by the lower AFC values observed in this study.

For some reason which I don't know, sometimes women are called heifers in Black America. Is it the Fulani influence?

MyRedCow,

Whatever you are referring to, remember that most Peuls are NOT like Beyonce and the ancient Africans of the Sahara and Sahel were not RED BONES.

How do you know that earliest cattle domesticators of the Sahara were a single ethnic entity, much less that "Fulani" as an ethnic construct existed back then? Know of any loan words from Fulani in the Nile Valley?

The main group was the Peul for cattle raising period.

http://ennedi.free.fr/

it was Amoudou hampate Ba who interpreted the Saharan Roch art based upon Peul metaphysical philosophy.

The Peul as the main cowboys of the Sahara is common knowledge.

Based on what evidence? How far back does this evidence attest to?

Does the said Saharan rock go back to at least 10,000 years ago...by which time cattle domestication had been occurring in the Saharan expanse.

What about issue of the social construct "Fulani" or that about the ethnic makeup of earliest cattle demisticators of the Sahara - in terms of heterogeneity or homogeneity? Were the "Fulani" the main groups of "eastern Sahara"?

What about the language issue I asked you about, that you chose to ignore without an explanation that is relevant to contents of that question?

If it is, then it is interesting to witness the difficulty with which you are backing it up.

^ Indeed, all the questions and statements Mystery raises are quite valid. Exactly what evidence points to 'Fulani' being the ones who domesticated cattle when cattle domestication took place so early in time it is likely 'Fulani' as a people did not exist yet?

Also, you seem to have bought the Eurocentric misnomer of classifying the Fulani as a so-called "tribe" when in fact they are an ethnic group.

What the heck does Beyonce (a modern day African American) have anything to do with ancient African Peuls??

HEIFERS!!!!

LMAO [Big Grin]

Of course many pastoralists cultures, especially in Africa symbolize the mother goddess as a cow. But are you saying that the Egyptian deity Hathor was of Peul origin??

I also notice you seem to associate the Jewish legend of the red cow marking the birth of the messiah to be of Peul origin.

[Embarrassed] If I didn't know any better I'd say you are a Peul/Fulani-centric!

Mystery Solver wants everything explained to him on a silver platter. It's not my fault that you cannot read French and I am not insulting you. If you look at the Sahara Neolithic site

http://ennedi.free.fr/ you'd see in the upper left hand corner this -

That little figure which is a proto-Peul guy is wearing a Fulani hat. It is generally accepted that their ancestors were the main cattle raisers. The ancestors of many groups were in the Sahara, of course. The ancestors of Berber speakers were there too and they were also pastoralists. But, the modern Fulani are the main group which has inherited th Cattle Culture.
They are usually painted in red ochre. There are main francophone articles on this subject.

Dr. Winters likes to use proto-Mande. When you go back in time a better term would be the Blacks. The archaeologists who have studied the cave paintings have come to the conclusion that the people in the Saharan frescoes near cattle are the ancestors of the Peul.

I'm not saying that the Peul specifically came up with the Red heifer sacrifice in the Bible. It probably had something to do with Egyptian priests coming out of Kemet with Moses as you go back in time we share ancestors.

I said African American women were sometimes refered to as heifers (cows). Beyonce is redbone -
a red cow.

What does she have to do with the Fulani????

She is of Louisiana Creole descent. The people of this area are definitely Senegambian in origin. Many were Wolof which is related to Peul. Many could have been Peul.

I am not Peul centric, these posts were. I do say over and over that Senegambia/Rice Coast is the main culture area that African Americans came from and that includes Peul. When you go back in time the various tribes/ethnic groups that speak West Atlantic languafes might have been one people who later split into various subdivisions.

A large number of slaves arrived in New Orleans between 1719 and 1731, most of them abducted directly from Senegal. The influence of African culture, therefore, was stronger in Louisiana than in the British colonies, whose slave populations often labored in the British West Indies for a generation or two.

He explains that about 70-percent of African slaves in the Mississippi River valley came from the part of west Africa that became Senegal and The Gambia. Many of them were members of the Wolof ethnic group.........

"If you look at the word 'jazz', you can find the word in at least three African languages: Wolof, Fulani, and Hasani, the language of the Moors of Mauritania, north of Senegal. The same word 'jazz', or 'jayz', when the Fulani say "jayz, that means dance, real dance," said Seck. "And, if you look at the early, real original jazz in New Orleans, it was dance music."

LMAO It has nothing to do Fulani. In America, whether among blacks, whites, or whatever, "heifer" is used as an outright insult to a woman.
