I read that translations of "Khafre" are along the lines of "Appearing like Re". This seems to ignore the 'f', which I though meant 'he, him, his'. So shouldn't it translate more correctly as 'He Appears (like) Re' or 'Re He Appears'?
What do you think?

Ps - An alternative interpretation has been: ‘The eternal rising Sun of Re.’

You can find all of your questions answered in Budge's Dictionary of Hieroglyphics...
Ex: look up Kha...f...re
Kha = to ascend (to the throne), rises, etc.,
f = he
Re = the Sun-God Re, the sun
thus, Khafre = He ascends (as, like) Re; My choice > "He rises like the sun"
