Originally posted by Djehuti: [QB] ^ I don't know why this focus one of the Egyptians' origin legends to know they are indigenous to Africa. Yes the south was one of the areas they say their ancestors originated. Other legends hold their ancestors came from the West as well which is why the West is considered the 'Land of the Dead' i.e. an ancestral area also. The point is whether west in the Sahara or south towards the source of the Nile or right where they are in Egypt, it is ALL in Africa! Never fear, there's more where that came from. [/qb]
Indeed. One problem is that East Africa as the site of OOA hosts many mt hgs that date back to around the time of OOA or a little after that time so there are going to be shared SNP motifs with Eurasian clades and therefore some confusion. Northeast Africa in particular i.e. Libya to Egypt and Sudan show a high frequency of R, particularly upstream R0 (pre-HV) and pre-JT markers as well as U markers. [/QB]
