Now as I understand it the cowhide shields of the Zulu were purely offensive weapons right? Designed to get an enemy off balance so his chest would be exposed to a few dozen stabbings courtesy of the ikwla

Most shields can act as offensive weapons as wells as defensive depending upon the size, shape, and construction.
