Know how you feel HH, I'm hearing/reading this opinion a lot in the past 24 hours. Personally sick and tired of Israel and it's victim card. 'We've been persecuted for 2000 years in just about everywhere we've lived' etc etc. Question. If your people have been singled out for persecution so often, so long, and in such diverse places, would you not start to wonder if maybe you were pissing people off? I always thought that Jews were really good at public relations (I know, bit of racial stereotyping there, but not a criticism) but this! This is not only an abomination in terms of human rights, like Lebanon, it is a total PR blunder. (I hate that word 'blunder'. I would HATE to be accused of making a 'blunder' wouldn't you?) Forget politicians, real people are writing to the msm using terms like'genocide' 'jewnazis' 'ashcan nazis' 'Hitler knew something ...' The tide is turning, people are demonstrating in Tel Aviv, as well as Cairo and Alex. Israeli election coming up, good people there should vote with their feet and get the hell out of that failed state before Hezbollah comes riding over those northern hills. This could the the beginning of the end.

Sudairi also commented on Iran's occupation of three Persian Gulf islands. "With all the turmoil over the Palestinian issue, we have completely forgotten that other Arab countries have been robbed of parts of their territories, in broad daylight, and we never uttered a word of protest," the Saudi columnist noted.

In fact, the report, which supplements the census figures with data from local studies, found the "steady erosion of manufacturing jobs and the rapid growth of low-wage service sector industries have solidified the county's status as one of the nation's capitals of working poverty." In 2006, six out of ten Los Angeles County families living in extreme poverty (defined as below the stringent federal poverty level, which was set in the early 1960s and doesn't take into account geographic differences in the cost of living) had adults working part- or full-time during that year. Meanwhile, almost one-third of the county's three million full-time workers earned less than $25,000, which was well below what was needed to support a family. And while the number of families in extreme poverty decreased from 13.4 percent in 2005 to 12.4 percent during 2006, there were still more than 250,000 families in the county living below the federal poverty line. Nearly two out of five residents didn't have enough income to even meet their basic needs and probably qualified for government anti-poverty programs. "We saw some good news - medium household income is up in Los Angeles County from the previous year and family poverty has decreased also," Jessica Goodheart, author of "Poverty, Jobs and the Los Angeles Economy: An Analysis of U.S. Census Data and the Challenges Facing Our Region," told The Tidings. In Los Angeles County during 2005, there were 2.1 million children and adults who had no health insurance during all or part of the year. Job-based health care has plummeted, while the number of the uninsured working poor has climbed in recent years. And some of the fastest-growing jobs are likely to lack health care. For instance, almost one-third of construction, leisure and hospitality workers have no insurance, either public or private. "The system is broken and employers are not contributing their fair share," said Goodheart, who is LAANE's co-director of research. "It's essentially shifting the cost onto the state without us having any kind of state comprehensive public health insurance. So it's a mess right now. And people are having to make impossible choices between not getting treatment and losing their homes. "At the same time, the Bush Administration is threatening not to increase the healthy family program here in California that covers low-income families. God, I've been doing that for decades! haha In England, my family used to hate shopping with me, complaining that a trip to Sainsbury's was a political event every time. I even used to mutter at other shoppers in the checkout line.
Sadly, a lot of microsoft stuff is made in Israel, so we have to compromise sometimes.
We should be hassling our governments to impose a trade blockade until this horror is resolved. At least until the aid trucks, fuel etc are alloed back into Gaza.

To answer Mark C.'s question: All we ever hear in the United States in the media is pro-Israel news; the Palestinians are always the enemy and in the wrong. I seek out other sources to obtain a more balanced view. This is not surprising since the U.S. is always trying to justify its own actions in Iraq and elsewhere. I personally am appalled by Israel's actions against innocent civilians and find the U.S. support of this despicable. And my tax dollars are paying for these obscenities.

I understand that Israel needs to protect itself from the constant missile attacks but it seems the methods used are causing too many civilian deaths. This bombardment and possible ground troop attacks will only fuel the hatred within the Arab world of the Israeli state. Violence should always be condemned on both sides. Give the Palestinians a proper independent state first then maybe the violence and hatred against Israel will diminish.

A lot of commentators criticise the israelis for their 'disproportionate' response. No one has offered any alternative way of responding to Hamas. Israel has been warning Hamas for several years, yet they persisted in using their territory as a launching pad for rockets. Which other country will permit a neigbouring nation to constantly fire rockets into it's territory? The Turkish Government has been bobarding PKK sites. I have not seen anyone accusing them of disproportionate response.

I think we are reaching the point where TAP needs to either stop and consider his/her position on this subject, or at least moderate his deeply offensive language or someone needs to ask for him to be banned from posting.
