Micky A, it looks like I've been left out of the music loop on a lot of this stuff. Michael Mc Donald and Christopher Cross kickin' some butt on Ride Like the Wind in an updated version on the same stage? Wow!
When I ''first'' heard McDonald about five years ago he was singing an old Motown tune by Marvin Gaye, Heard It Through The Grapevine. I recall thinking who is this guy! I didn't realize until much later he used to sing with an earlier group of guys; Google says The Doobie Brothers.
Anyway here's a teddy bear hug for the link. You ladies keep this up and I won't have any need to fuss on the other topics.

Thank you again for the really good stuff. Some of Anita Baker's music was very popular at the rollerskating rink 12-13 years ago.

I said this at the top of the page: ''Micky A, it looks like I've been left out of the music loop on a lot of this stuff. Michael Mc Donald and Christopher Cross kickin' some butt on Ride Like the Wind in an updated version on the same stage? Wow!''
I was curious so a few minutes ago I googled those two again and found out the CD debuted in 1980. For some reason I just didn't recall McDonald's voice on the original Ride Like the Wind but I see I'm wrong on this. Well I can trash my ''updated version'' comment (above).

Thanks Micky A, I'll do see to it about Youtube. I wasn't even aware of the site until a few months ago when my now teenage grandson told me about it (this was after my asking him why he suddenly had to use my pc everyday)
Makbeta, when Richie was going strong I found myself being out of touch with him simply because I was, at the time, a fast music listener. I didn't appreciate the nuances of his style until much later in my years. Then, when a co-worker asked me if I was interested in Lionel (this was after he recorded a few CDs for me on his new recorder a few years back) I Basically told him the same thing I did you but that I would listen to him (Richie) to see if anything had changed from within with me. Well wouldn't you know it. Lying in bed shortly after work, the same night he gave me the CD, I put the headphones on and... well... I quickly discovered a new listening experience for me. Keep in mind I heard most of his music at one time during his popularity but it just didn't find me until that night after work. I actually listened to the entire CD and did find new thoughts and meaning to his style. It was an enjoyable experience. I guess fathertime, at least with me, has found a way to conk me on the head to make me ''Straighten up and Fly Right'' (Nat King Cole).
Well I'm heading downstairs to read the paper. See you later ladies.

Well, it seems to me that we have two teams on ES Music Thread: The Heavy Metal Team and The Not Really Into Heavy Metal Team.

I like Jean Michel Jarre's China concerts most, I think. I don't remember the year, but it was probably 1981 or 1982.

I love this song, very touchy. Not mine.My goal is to have this video honored at least once.
"Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then Spin me around 'til I fell asleep Then up the stairs he would carry me And I knew for sure I was loved If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him I'd play a song that would never, ever end How I'd love, love, love To dance with my father again When I and my mother would disagree To get my way, I would run from her to him He'd make me laugh just to comfort me Then finally make me do just what my mama said Later that night when I was asleep He left a dollar under my sheet Never dreamed that he would be gone from me If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him I'd play a song that would never, ever end 'Cause I'd love, love, love To dance with my father again Sometimes I'd listen outside her door And I'd hear how my mother cried for him I pray for her even more than me I pray for her even more than me I know I'm praying for much too much But could you send back the only man she loved I know you don't do it usually But dear Lord she's dying To dance with my father again Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream"

It's really nice to see a face or faces behind the music I've heard on the radio over the years. It's easy to forget the mellow sounds that captured the imagination in times past. Thank goodness for the internet (the link above).
I have a brief story to tell about an artist from the 60s.
While driving home from the mall one evening a couple of years ago I heard this DooWop song on the oldies station in Cleveland,Ohio, fm105.7. I recall hearing the song so long ago that I'm sure I hadn't heard since it was popular sometime in the 60s. I was sufficiently impressed to try and track it down but I didn't have any success. Many internet searchs didn't show anything and I had no clue who the artist was. And the lack of any success surely had everything to do with my lack of skills. All I could remember was a bar or two towards the end in the song.
Many months passed so I quietly shoved it further back in the memory bank until it just didn't resonate anymore. One day while browsing through a recently sent Collector's Choice Music booklet I actually decided to spend real time browsing through some of the oldies section. After looking at several artists with nothing particular in mind I came across Gene Pitney who I remembered from his Town Without Pity fame. So I casually scanned his list of songs and rcall thinking how many songs he had made; news to me since I only heard two three on the radio. So when I got near the end of his song list I noticed ''In Every Beat of my Heart'' (not sure if that's the exact title). At this point I mildly pulled one of those ''hmmm'' thoughts, not really sure about anything because I had already decided to buy the CD solely for ''Town Without Pity''.
About a week later (during that time frame of a couple of years ago) after coming home from work late at night the CD was on the kitchen table. Later, lying in bed I put it in the player beside the bed and decided to listen to all 25 songs from the beginning. Song number one played and WHAM! number two suddenly made me realize my ''search'' was complete; I was floored. That distinct sound I recall from the previous two years on the radio came flooding into my ears with great relief. I believe I wore out this one. You ladies know how it is, play it to death.
(A lot of the other songs were worth listening to also.)
I didn't mean to get windy but I had to let it all hang out.
