Afrocentrics on this forum have claimed that European scholars tend to neglect the Mali Empire because it was founded and ruled by ''Blacks'' in West Africa.
I knew nothing about the Mali Empire, so i spent a day in my university library reading about it and looking at pictures. As i suspected, most Malian kings were NOT ''Black'' (Negroid) but Arabic Caucasoids.
Mali had an outside racial source, brought in to West Africa by Arabs, while Malian religion was none other than Islam. What we know of the Malian Empire, especially its kings only comes from contemporary Arabic historians, many who note that the Mali royalty was admixed with Arab.
Mali's most wealthy ruler Mansa Musa, was certainly Caucasoid (and not Negroid) as depictions of the era show.

The Arabic authors by this time were well familiar with Negroid (Black African) physiognomy, yet depicted most Mali kings as non-Negroid, quite obviously because many were of of Arabic or Semitic (Caucasoid) descent.
So the question that needs to be asked is -
Do Negroids not have a single civilization or history which is not connected to an outside (for example Caucasoid) source?
As far as the historical record shows, including Mali, which i enjoyed spending a day researching - ''Blacks'' have never built a civilization or society by themselves, not even in West Africa. The Malian kings were in fact mostly Arab (Caucasoids).

Yes look at the depiction on the map you have posted. Mansa Musa is on the right. As you can see he has a long Semitic nose, lightish skin, and heavy facial hair. He is clearly non-Negroid.

Kouroukan Fouga The Kouroukan Fouga or Kurukan Fuga is purported to be the constitution of the Mali Empire (mid-thirteenth century to c. 1645), created after the Battle of Krina by an assembly of notables to create a government for the newly established empire. It was first alluded to in print in Djibril Tamsir Niane's book, Soundjata, ou la Epoupée Mandingue. It is particular tradition for Ghanian tribes, to take people and make them Chief of their town, as a ambassador.

Appointment of traditional authorities with an international migrant background has become an important trend in Ghana. Such ‘return chiefs’ are expected to bring development and modernization, but – as former international migrants – they are also seen as potentially estranged from local customs and realities. As presumed guardians of tradition, they are thus placed in a situation that poses a range of dilemmas of legitimacy and public authority. The article argues that return chiefs are in an ambivalent position between the domains of tradition and modernity and that they endeavour to overcome this dilemma through emphasizing their foundation in tradition as well as by using their professional and international experience to spur local development and modernize the chieftaincy institution. Return chiefs thus simultaneously practise and invoke the traditional and the modern. In this way, the transformation of chieftaincy is embedded in both local and global contexts. Return chiefs go beyond local customs to bring development and innovation to their areas, mobilizing international networks, touring European and North American countries, and collaborating with international development agencies, NGOs, and migrants. Their practices are thus at once local and global, and the article calls for inclusion of both perspectives in contemporary chieftaincy studies.
