Thanks god you won't see scenes like that in good ol' Germany. Muslims here know how to behave.

Personally that remark literally made me shudder. Is it illegal to organise a peaceful march in Germany? We all see so many scenes of marchers, protesters, being beaten, 'kettled', arrested etc that we are in danger of assuming that freedom of speech and assembly do not exist.
Personally I do not know whether Sharia Law in Libya would be a good idea, I doubt it, but I would defend with my life people's right to voice an opinion.
Yes. really.

Mine too, but anyone has a right to have and voice an opinion in UK, sorry you don't have that in Germany even after the wall.

We have Plymouth Brethren who are a Christian sect who shout on street corners that we're all going to hell in a hand cart if we don't repent and be saved. It's very easy. You just keep walking. I don't think we're in much danger of them taking over the universe - same with the group in this story. I mean, come on, they're not the brightest lot. If they want to protest for Sharia law in Libya, doing it umpteen thousand miles away is pretty pointless. If, indeed, that is what was going one. I don't think the link is the most reliable source.

If they were the ones smashing things up, burning stuff and spraying graffiti then they should be arrested for it. I didn't hear yet that any of the troublemakers were muslim.

"Is there room for religion in politics?

Total Politics talks to Archbishop Cranmer, who describes himself as a "crusading cleric with a vibrant mission" and has even attracted the attention of Richard Dawkins.

The United Kingdom owes its laws, law-making, customs, traditions and values to the Christian faith. To pretend that this rich heritage can be systematically eradicated in favour of 'multiculturalism' and 'secularism' is a fallacy. There is a myth that politics should be secular and that secularism is somehow neutral. It is not. It has its own dogma, a distinct orthodoxy and an intolerance of dissent every bit as intransigent as those religions it frequently misrepresents and seeks to neuter. Instead of constantly demanding that religion should be removed from politics, perhaps the time has come for there to be a strict separation of secularism and state."

Not an entirely impartial judge, is he?

I suspected as much. So apart from one radical Christian, is there any evidence this actually occurred?

Of course not. The remark was just another dig at Muslims. [Roll Eyes]

It's not about holding a demonstration. It's about the messages which were displayed. Who those people think they are? Want to impose their weird religious believes on the entire planet!!!

This certainly has nothing to do with freedom of speech. Without a doubt these Muslims who protested there displayed strong notions of Islamic extremism. The MI5 better keep a close eye on all of them - and without a doubt they do.

Oh the local vocal bible bashers in my town are more annoying than the folk asking you if you wanna discuss car accidents / insurance, the Big Issue Sellers and the tramps singing for their next can of Special Brew... and the people shaking pots for numerous charities...it is like running the gauntlet to get away from street parasites!

I feel like grabbing a mike and rigging up my own ropey speakers and discussing and imposing my views on others when they are trying to shop in the rain on their 30 minute lunch break [Big Grin]

Bug bear!

You should go to Walthamstow on a Saturday - in the square there are:
God Squad (bible bashers)
Evangelist choirs
Nation of Islam
Socialist Workers
Animal Rights
Chuggers (short for Charity muggers - those folk in charity vests trying to get you to give them your credit card details in the street)
Every kind of God in every kind of Squad.

I used to be a Chugger... I was raising funds for Deaf Children but I always had my 2 dogs with me... this woman came over to me (I was non evasive) and popped in a £2 coin. When she asked me which animal charity I supported and I told her it was actually for deaf children she wanted her money back [Big Grin] The world's gone mad!!

I just hate people ramming stuff down my throat, we all have a view and we all have a voice and an opinion... we also have ears and eyes and some days I am exhausted listening and reading others one track view that is border line obtrusive, offensive and frankly a right ole load of BS.

Right, that is my monthly rant, I am off to eat me dinner in peace [Big Grin]
