Egypt freezes assets of 29 Brotherhood members
Monday, January 29, 2007
CAIRO: Egypt's public prosecutor on Sunday froze the assets of 29 members of the Muslim Brotherhood after accusing them of "money laundering and financing an illegal group," a judicial source said. The move applied to 29 members of the movement and their families, and marked the first time such measures - typically reserved for cases of fraud and embezzlement - were taken against the country's largest opposition bloc. Among those affected included the Brotherhood's third-ranking official and financier, Mohammad Khairat al-Shater, and businessman Abdel-Rahman Sewudi, both of whom are presently in detention, the source said. Also included was the chief of the Islamic bank Al-Taqwa, Youssef Nada, who is in exile abroad. In December, six Brotherhood members were arrested in Cairo and charged with money laundering. It was the first time such a charge had been leveled against members of the group, which is officially banned but tolerated. - AFP

Is this a bogus charge or does corruption run across all spectrum of Egyptian political society, including the "pious" MB?

Do you all know that Muslim Brotherhood was created by the British occupation in 1920s to divide the Egyptians ( Muslims and Christians ) ???
But this is 2007! Politics have moved on a little bit from there, even if your theory was true or had a grain of truth in it, the Brits are no longer occupying Egypt!
This is just yet another example of follow-my-leader...let's freeze the assets of any Muslim group that uses its funds to take care of the poor/do charity work, and call them an outlawed group supporting terrorism. Then we can make ourselves look better when we do anything!
